I work for GEICO... sad day having to estimate a fellow Z06 =(

I was a sad site, but interesting for me b/c it made my day "exciting". The owner was a very nice guy and not in as bad a mood as I'd have been in. I looked at my print out on the claim and said

"Woah, you've got an '01 Z06?" him, "Yeah!" me, "Cool I have a yellow one." blah blah...

he probably learned more about the construction of his car than he'd ever wanted to know. In the end he was thrilled to get me as his adjuster b/c I knew the car inside and out and could show him so much. I explained all the different materials and construction methods used in the car and gave him a positive outlook on the upcomming repairs. I got him hooked up w/ the best shop around and gave him the number of a guy I know who just had his '04 CE Z06 fixed (backed in into a tree auto-xing at Hickory, NC... btw he's a great driver too and got FTD w/ a wrecked car!).

The best part was discussing the mods he needs to do now (can you say specter werkes rear facia :yesnod: )

The accident description... kid driving Ford pickup not paying attention slams into him and pushes him into a suv in front. Th pics don't look as bad as the damage really is. The car held up amazingly and the owner kept repeating how happy he was w/ it's crash performance.

The pics...

The rear bumper cover taps were all torn, the foam absorber was smashed, and the rear metal reinforcement was crushed and bent down (making the catback hang low). The outher lt lamp was busted as was the inner rt one. The backup lamps were shattered too. Once I peeled back the interior carped I saw the carnage... the rear fiberglass tub was destroyed and cost over $1000. The trunk lid had a crack in the underside, and the LT quarter was cracked some from the compression. In the front the bumper cover was just scuffed up very badly.

Total cost of repairs $4500.

Hey, since you work for Geico, could you tell me if this is the truth, or urban legand? I've read in a magazine that your employer furnishes the latest in speed trap equipment to various law enforcement orginizations, gratis. Since insurance companies always jack up rates for any moving violations, it would seem Geico takes a particularly pro-active approach to increasing profits. Just kind of like to know. thanks.

Sounds like a lucky guy to have found you as an adjuster. I know it doesn't make him feel any better about his Z though. Hope you can get the pics uploaded so we can see how well the Z held up.

I have no clue about the radar stuff. I head that they used to send out surveys to customers about driving habits and asking if they used a radar detector. If you answered yes to having a detector they'd drop you (gay). I've only been there since August and am doing a upper management development program (first job out of college). So far so good and it pays for my house and the Z06 so I don't complain.

I'll put the pics in my gallery... they should be there whenever you all read this.

Hah... I just cancelled Geico after being with them for four years. I just made the move from Connecticut to North Carolina. In the process of making the move, they went over all my info again. I'm not sure what it was that made my insurance jump, either it was the 2pt ticket they pulled up or it was the fact that I was hit (not my fault) this last november, but they wanted to raise my premium $2200. I went to state farm and ended up getting a cheaper quote then what I had with Geico originally.

Glad to know there's a GEICO rep here. Both of my cars are insured by the little green lizzard. Are you in Northern Virginia? Hopefully, nothing will ever happen to my Z .

getchellad... NC is a f'ed up state for auto insurance. They are super regulated and use a re-insurance facility to ceed liability policies. Baically NC is a take all commers state. For instance, if you have a John Deer that you want insurance on we HAVE to write you a policy... if you've got 15 DUI's we HAVE to write you! Thus the state makes the good drivers pay more to offset the bad drivers. There's a rate ceiling in NC so we can only charge the bad drivers so much. Actually NC sets the rates, but we determine what characterisitics we deem important to decide what class you fall into. The NC insurance commissioner Jim Long wants rates to be "fair" and "affordable" for everyone. Thus be bad drivers get a price break and the good people have to pay for it. It sucks, it's confusing, and it makes the state hard to do business in.

SO, that's probably why your rates went up...
