The 1999-2000 hardtop, started out as the poor man's Vette, and developed into the C5 Z06, which is far from the poor man's Vette. The car is very much in demand now, more so than it was when it first came out. The styling of this Vette, puts it in the class of the C2 generation Stingray, and like it's predecessor the 1963 C2 Z06, it will age like a fine bottle of wine. Especially, to Corvette enthusiasts and collectors. It's unique fixed hardtop with a trunk, is the first in Corvette history, and the first time that Corvette produced three models, Coupe, Vert and Hardtop. These Z's today will become a classic within it's own era, following the footsteps of the first Z06 series which started in 1963. With only 28,000 that were produced, and considering what is left now as pure stock vehicles, and believe me the numbers are getting less each day with people modding and customizing, ensures that this car with low mileage and pristine condition, will be a good investment today and in the future.
Thanks for making me feel better about mine. Although I yearn for a C6Z and admire each and every one that I encounter, I still glance back at my "old" C5Z and feel it really hasn't lost much if anything to any other vehicle out there over the past 4+ years.
I hope you're right, but I'm not saving mine to find out if it retains resale value. I treat it like a good horse ... ride it hard, and give it a quality "grooming" ... mechanical, then cosmetic, before it beds down or I bed down. Pleasure delayed is pleasure denied ...

I guess i have one of the "rare" ones. My 2004 Torch Red Z06 is totally bone stock with only 962 miles. Still has all the original window stickers on the windshield. I get some flack for not loading on the miles, but I enjoy it my way and also have four other vehicles to use.
I love my 04, its got 28K on it. I love to drive it, and I definitely take care of it. I plan on having it for a long time, although, I would also love to have the C6Z.
You might be right, fatherlarry. Then again, they're just too much fun to drive. Hey, I might even buy YOUR low mileage Z06 in 20 years when mine is all used up!

I guess if you are willing to just let it "sit" in the garage and stare at it it might hold some value in 25 years....but it's just a car. It will depreciate in value. Why not drive it and have fun with it instead of looking at it as an investment.
I love my '03 and I like the mods done to add a little more fun factor. It's turned into a garage queen, but not intentionally. With less than 15K on the odometer, I really need to take it out and enjoy it more. JMO
Investment, schmenvestment! I've got stocks/bonds/ other crap for that. It's a freakin' car. You drive it when you can. It's worth whatever it's worth at the time you're finally tired of it. Personally, I'd be bored with mine without modding.

If you do not drive it you are saving it for the next owner. These cars will never be what you could call an investment in our life time. Anything that it produced in the thousands is not a collector car for a very very very long time. Drive it like you stole it every day and enjoy it!!

I had that idea almost 15 years ago when I ponied up for a 40th anniv. ZR-1. I would drive it for 500 miles and put it away in the garage. Well, it was waay too much fun to drive, so I started doing mods, then HPDE's. WHAT A GAS!!! Nearly as much fun as roadracing motorcycles back in the early 80's! Anyway, I put that ZR-1 into a wall @ Road America at triple digits...split the car length-wise, driver side was about 5" behind the pass. side. Walked away from it, the car was built like a brick sh**house! Do I miss it? Yeah, only because I would still be doing track days with it. It was that much fun. Investment? Maybe for my 1 year old (at that time), but would have been WAAAY ahead putting it into any decent mutual fund back in '93.
It's a car, enjoy it. If you enjoy looking at it in the garage, good for you, enjoy it. That's the great thing about this country!

The other thing is; we have all heard of those great stories where somebody opens up an old barn to find a priceless antique or classic auto inside, just waiting to be discovered. However the owner is usually long gone, dead, dust, forever gone, will never know how much his or her cherished auto was worth 50 odd years after they passed.
So I say.... drive it, mod it, sell it, wax it, do whatever blows your skirt up, but mainly enjoy it, now, while there is still life in your body.
its all how you look at it. I bought mine in pretty good condition. not prestine, but really good. It has its flaws and I think those flaws make it so I don't feel bad about modding the car to my liking, haha
