Major Guard Warranty vs standard warranty

Folks

Anyone know the difference (other than cost) or benefit for purchasing the extended warranty (called Major guard coverage) over the basic 3yrs/36k mile warranty from the dealer?

My dealer offered a 72months/50k miles and 0 deductible for 1025.00--is it worth it?

thanks

fern

In a nutshell......No.
Wait until you get close to running out on the original before you decide.
What they fail to tell you is your warranty, starts as soon as you take delivery........
The one your buying...not the GM standard 3/36

fd,
The minute you sign the papers............(take delivery).

3yrs, or 36 k miles, whichever comes first...

My advice, any interior, finish problems ADVISE dealer ASAP...

Do not wait for 3-4-7-12 months to say you have a problemn with a seat, the dash, the carpet etc.....it will be probaly urned down for a wear issue..i.e. normal.....

Extended warranty is a gamble. You have to decide how much of a chance you want to take. I went for a 72 mo/60k/0 deductible because I plan on keeping the car for awhile, and plan on about 10,000 miles/year. The warranty cost about $1100 at the time of purchase.

After 3 years, virtually ANY major repair could cost that much, if not much more.

So far, my car has not required any service at all. Hope it stays that way, but if not, I'm prepared.

Thanks Jerry
I guess I just dont trust the dealer, but you guys. So can you please tell me if the extended waranty covers MORE (and if so what) than the basic coverage? I assume both cover major (engine, tranny, etc, but what about starters, alternators, etc..)

I also know neither one covers normal wear tear like belts, wipers, pads, sparkplugs, and the like.

Thanks all.

Fern

fduron, go to the chevrolet web site and click on the GMPP from the upper right pull down menu (I think?!) and go to that site, it'll explain everything you want to know. I just checked it out but at the recommendation of our fellow members I am waiting until my 3/36 is almost expired and making the decision then.
