Is it a tri-stage paint? I know it uses a white base and a tinted clear to achieve it's sheen.
Chevy body shop dude says not a tri-stage. He painted Tracker's front facia and it's a poor match. Now we are at a loss of what to do. Neither one of us like confrontations and like to keep good relations the the dealership.
Can any body shop folks out there please advise?

they do charge extra for it.. i don't think they know what they are talking about.
i say.. take it in.. sit in the sunlight. and just ask the manager.. do you think it looks good.. ? and matches >?
then go from there

Quite some time ago....Think it was here ...that I read that it was tinted - thus explaining the vastly different apprerances in different light & color temp conditions...Sunny/cloudy/dusk/various artifical light Incandecent/Florecent/HID
I do not know about the Tri/non tri-stage paint part, I recall reading that the "clear coat" was not exactly clear but was tinted for the purpose of giving the car a different color look at night..

I had my hood painted twice, first time it was too light, second time a tad dark but I can live with it. Under lights you can see it if you look hard, outside you can hardly tell.

Jub ... did you ever get a straight answer?
My bet would be base coat & tinted clear coat ... that's what they said during the extended plant tour I took back in '01 ...

I don't know what the freaking deal is but, the dealer, the paint supply people, everyone we talk to says "Not a tri-stage and no tinted clear coat"!
WTF over?
I'm with you Denny, I know someone from GM at one time told me it was a tri-stage paint.
At the moment, Allan has put the front facia on hold and is reviewing his options.

Everyone we talk to says it's a bitch to match and the only way it won't be too noticeable is to blend. So that might be the route Allan takes.

Re: Millenium Yellow...
jub,
Pretty sure the factory paint is a tri-stage, but understand that most repairs get done as a two-stage. Like you said, the trick is going to be in blending it in.

Hey Scott. How ya doing buddy?
Now that I have a black Z, I've been learning the ins and outs of detailing. I've been using Adams too. Pretty good stuff!
