As you know I just picked up a 2003 Z with 1300 miles on the clock. The car was literally never driven and had an obsessive owner just like me.
Since the car is out of factory warranty, I understand that I don't qualify for the Major Guard Extended Warranty. Should I consider a non GM extended warranty? If so, who do you recommend?
FWIW, I am leaning towards not getting one since the car is basically brand new. All thoughts and suggestions are welcomed!
Is a GM dealer selling the Non-GM waranty? Will they do the work for covered items? Does it cover things like sensors?
My Z06's are very low mileage and I have the GMPP on both. The '02 developed a cam sensor problem @ 2200 miles out of waranty and it was covered! I bought mine for time coverage not mileage!
You probably need to read all of the details of coverage on a non-factory waranty!

In a perfect world, the GMPP would have been a good choice if a GM dealer would have been involved.
The problem with third-party insurance is that it can be hard to collect on, and sometimes the insurance companies don't survive over time. I'd suggest contacting the dealer or repair service that would probably be doing the work and finding out if there is a company they've worked with or had experience with- good or bad.
Although the car is low mileage, they are fairly complex machines with a lot of technology that can be expensive to replace or fix, and some of the issues seem to be more related to the parts themselves than the usage to which they're subjected.
After you've got some alternatives, shop for some coverage options, and see what it's going to cost compared to what the repair tickets run for the recurring problems seen on the tech forum side; $1500-$2000 and up isn't all that uncommon.
My experience was with a Carmax warranty that was supposed to be good anywhere.
When my mechanic tried to collect they would only pay flat rate, say 30 minutes for X job. He did not like it because they did not pay enough per job.
The dealer told me that when those programs started, they tried to work with them, but quit because of the above reason. So they wouldn't take it either.
Seeing how your car is not eligible for a GMPP extended warranty. Go to you local Chevy dealer ( the one where you would choose to have your service work performed) and ask them what outside Warranty companies they have good results with and go from there on shopping for price, terms etc.

I would get a warranty but shop around and make sure the company has a good reputation. My son who is a GM tech told me to get the extended warranty, the parts cost are outrageous on these vehichles. When it comes to modern cars I follow his advice, he has not steered me wrong yet.
