**NEED HELP** Service steering column

Please help. My 2003 Z06 steering column is locked and will not unlock. The display reads "service column lock". I can start the car but not move it due to the locked column. I tried the lock/unlock several times!!! It is parked in a not so hot part of town right now.

Re: **NEED HELP** Service steering column

The old trick was to pull the steering wheel hard to the right and turn the key at the same time. It worked once for me.
Good luck

Re: **NEED HELP** Service steering column

I've tried everything. Anyone have any experience getting one towed/flatbeded to Chevy when they are lowered?

Re: **NEED HELP** Service steering column

I was forced to leave it there overnight and checked on it this morning and everything was fine. I do need to get it towed without ripping the front bumper off...Any suggestions?

Re: **NEED HELP** Service steering column

I would suggest calling a tow truck company that has a flatbed tow truck and having him bring a few 2x4's to help get the front end/bumper up a little when pulling it onto the flatbed (and taking it off the flatbed when you get to the dealer). Hope this helps....

Re: **NEED HELP** Service steering column

Talked to my Chevy dealer and they told me the recall on the column lock had already been done. I ended up taking apart the plastic housing around the steering column and beating on the lock mechanism. It worked! I started it and shut it off several times...seems fine.
