Hey guys, new member here and I'm set up with a buyer to sell my '99 T/A M6 that's cammed with bolt-ons (427RWHP/380RWTQ) on Jan. 4th which I've owned for 4 years. I'm also preapproved for a loan which I plan to use along with my money from the T/A to buy my first vette. So my question is should I go with a C5Z ('02) or a stock '05 C6? I've always liked the electron blue color and I know how quick the C5Z's really are. Most people underrate these cars when in reality it's similar speed-wise to a 400rwhp f-body. The only reason I would lean towards the C6 is b/c it's the new body style and the C5 has been around 8 years prior to. I still think the ZO6 is sexy as hell and I know it's faster. Even though this forum is biased what would you guys recommend? Keep in mind I've NEVER owned a vette before.
TIA,
Geoff
do you want a corvette or a racing corvette?
C5Z all the way
I've done all the work to my T/A myself...I definitely want a car with balls not just a vette b/c it's a vette if that makes any sense. I figured the C6 wasn't that much slower but I know the Z can trap 115-118 which is pretty damn quick
I pondered the same thing about a c6 or a c5 z06 when I was looking at getting my first vette. It took about thirty seconds to realize the right choice was the c5 z06 for me. Im partial to liking the EB color myself.
You are missing the point of the Corvette if you are a 1/4 mile junkie!!
Apex's and brake points are the cars forte!!
Good luck and have fun!!
Ken
Honestly I've never owned a car that can handle high speed turns and brake like it's dragging an anchor! I'm used to my T/A which is no comparison in the curves/stopping to something like a C5Z.

Coming out of a '99 T/A M6 that's cammed with bolt-ons, I think you would be happier with the C5Z. It has more of an "edge" to it. Besides, the EB is an awesome color which is only available on an '02 or '03.
Good luck with your decision & welcome to the site !

Best Corvette is the C6 (they get better every year)
Most "satisfying" is a subjective, value thing ...
I've driven a C6Z on the street and an '07 C6 with Z51 on an autox course.
C6Z is a thoroughbred to my C5Z stallion. (and I remain happy with my C5Z)
C6 w/ Z51 seemed very "vanilla"
Suggest you drive your options, then decide what's right for you.
Good luck.

Anyone at home in a '99 T/A M6 that's cammed with bolt-ons (427RWHP/380RWTQ) is going to even more so in a Z06 of either generation. While we all love straight linr aceleation, this car is much more than a quarter miler,it's about handling road & track. I am with Kens06 as far as C6 looks go, tho the CZ06 looks is much easier to admire that the C6 coupe. The bottom line is what suits you and that you love most.

DennM ... You are soooo right on with the vanilla thing. I have been offered a screamin killer deal on a loaded (yes all of it except*) VY 08 Coupe LS3/430hp. Smoooth as a velvet and my seat of the pants dyno says this car will not just keep up with but probably beat my 04Z06, disgusting but true. Tho it handles very close to the Z(has the Z51) I cannot pull the trigger cause the car is just so smooth and vanilla and has no nasty "edge"
In the end its about what ya like most... If you like the C5 looks and are going to do a lot of mods, find the cheapest C5Z you can and mod it till the neighbors all have earplugs .. Heres Lookin Atcha

Thanks for all the replies guys. I definitely can't afford ANY C6Z so it's either a really good deal on an '05 C6 or the '02-'03 ZO6. I really love the acceleration my T/A gives especially up above 4K rpms and when driving that car I feel like I could take on anyone (knowing that there are plenty other cars that would whoop up on me). Anyways, I think I'm leaning towards the C5Z for both it's looks and "edge" as some of you mentioned. I want the exclusivity of a vette but with the bite of my current car. Plus I can do all the same mods to the Z that I've done to my T/A...later down the road of course as I save up money. For now it will remain stock for a while.
I always say the C5Z is a "Jekell & Hyde" car. You can drive it like a grandma and it won't protest. On the highway in 6th you can get 28+MPG. When you start shifting above 4500+ it becomes a beast. It's like getting 2 cars for the price of one.
Another thing to keep in mind - Mods to your Vette will be considerably more expensive, for pretty much the same thing. Example - LT headers will be 2-3 hundred $$ more for your Vette than your F-body. We call it "Corvette Tax".
