How do you guys feel about the new Nissan GTR which will be released next yr? If the information is true below, will Japan's new muscle be the new intimidator of the streets?
June issue of Holiday Auto is stating that the new GT-R is aiming to lap Nurburgring somewhere in the 7 minutes 30 seconds range.
No comparison. The GTR is going to be a weighted down sport/luxury coupe that will probably be marketed under the infiniti brand so that people dont freak out over paying 80k for a nissan.
The Z06 will maul it. There is no way that car is running a 7:30 at the ring.

I would doubt 7:30 in stock form..its based on the G35 Platform I heard which is nice but a fat pig in the weight dept. I think 7:30 is wishful thinking but in a way..unrealistic.
Unveiled at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show in 2005, the Nissan GT-R Proto Concept gives an impression of what the new GT-R will look like when it finally goes on sale globally in 2007. For the first time in GT-R history, the new car will not derive from a sedan, but receive its own specific body style. It is thus likely, that recent rumors of the GT-R losing the Skyline part of its name will come true.
So, here it is: meet the upcoming Nissan GT-R!
So far, Nissan has not released any technical specifications of the production model, but speculation among the media suggests the new GT-R will carry over the ATTESA-ETS all-wheel-drive system of previous Skyline GT-Rs, as well as HICAS all-wheel-steering. Both of these systems have already been introduced to "lesser" Skyline / Infiniti G35 variants, and seem very likely to make it to the top-version, as well. Rumors suggest the 2007 GT-R will either be powered by a turbo-version of Nissan's ubiquitous VQ35 engine-series, or a variant of the Infiniti Q45's VK45 engine. Since the GT-R is supposed to mix with the best sports-cars globally, power-levels are expected to reach in excess of 450 hp.
The exterior of the new concept builds up on elements of previous GT-Rs, with the trademark round lights in the back and a wide single center air intake in front. In comparison to the previous GT-R Concept, the headlights now flow into a lower, canted hood. More pronounced and boldly shaped front fenders feature an air vent on their back to help cooling. Overall, the stance looks more aggressive and fluid now, than it did on the previous GT-R Concept.
Notable from the side are the wide C-Pillar and the integration of the A-Pillar into the windscreen and side windows, which in conjunction with the low roofline arouse the image of an aircraft canopy. The rear is dominated by the GT-R's trademark round taillights, an underbody diffuser, and four prominent exhaust pipes - and reminds this writer of a Ferrari 456's backend (except for the wing).
What changes will be made to the production version has to be seen, but the GT-R Promo Concept is already a major step forward from the previous GT-R Concept. Let's just hope the car also hold dynamically what it promises aesthetically.
First off, I want to applaud you guys for responding maturely. There was a long thread a while back about the GTR in another corvette forum and there seemed to lack education which caused a lot of mud slinging back and forth.
As for the GTR, yes it was the Skyline GTR in the past. The Skyline name was dropped off because the G35 took over this name. It caused a lot of confusion, but the key name here was GTR. The GTR is what the Corvette is to America. It has a long heritage with decades of history. As Normin posted, the GTR will be labeled as the Nissan GTR. This definitely shaves off about $20K if Infiniti sold it. This is why the GTR is aimed to go against the Z06 because the price range will be similiar.
Well if the numbers are correct, then you guys will definitely have a true competitor. We wont know the facts until next yr.
No comparison. The GTR is going to be a weighted down sport/luxury coupe that will probably be marketed under the infiniti brand so that people dont freak out over paying 80k for a nissan.
The Z06 will maul it. There is no way that car is running a 7:30 at the ring.
Ditto, AWD is heavy! Unless the new GTR is a TT V8 pushing at least 600 hp which it wont be, and unless it has 315's all the way around there is no way no how that it will run the ring in 7 30.
FYI, the current R34 weighs 3676. I think if nissan takes drastic measures to keep the weight down to a 3450-3500 curb weight which may be feasible, with extensive use of exotic materials such as CF, magnesium, Ti etc. Lamborghini tried their best to keep the gallardo as light as possible and the spyder still tips 3800 lbs! Mitsu and Subaru have managed to keep their AWD offerings in the 3200 lbs range, with small displacement 4 cylinders but thats about as light as they get.
The new GTR is gonna be nice, but yeah if its gonna come with a $80k dollar price range and not offer current american super car performance I dont think it will fare well.
Welcome to the forum, invincible569. Could you please post a link that has more comprehensive performance stats on the GTR? Thanks.
There are no performance stats to this date. Everything is hush hush from Nissan right now. This is the only information I have seen that has said something, but like you guys have said, we need to see it to believe it.
By the way, the info above is a little outdated since it said it will be released in 07. This changed because they are trying to make this car the perfect car and go after the Porsche too performance wise.
