I traded my 2000 LS1 F-Body (TA) for my 2001 Z06. I definitely feel a SOTP difference in off the line power between the LS1 and the LS6. I have never driven a LT1 powered Vette of F-Body but I have read that they have tons of torque down low. Are they quicker off the line than the Z06? Just curious and thanks.

Hi there,
Quickest off the line would acutally be the L98, due to airflow of the intake, and the gearing of a manual trans X the rear end ratio X the tire size.
You cannot compare apples and oranges, as other factors weigh in other than engine design only.
I hope that this helps, c4c5

There are a number of non LT1 ...LS6 cars that are impressive off the line... but I think you would agree ..of the 2 he asked about, it is the LS6 all the way
HI there, Quick,
L98 is 15 ft lbs stronger under 2000 rpm, then the LS6 takes over.
All things being equal, L98 will have the slightest of edges over the LS6 on an equal launch.
Then the L98, just plummets powerwise, compared to LS6.
LT1, with the short intake runners, gains behind LS6, as it is a faster revver than the L98, by a long shot.
As the original post, off the line, L98 will have it. Then LS6, then the LT1, off the line.
Besttoall, c4c5

But not with the tires that came stock on those L88 and L89 cars.
Having owned all three Vettes, L98, LT1, and now LS6; I agree with C4C5, the L88 low end grunt is perfect for the street and automatic trans cars, but it runs out of breath about 4800, the LT1 launched OK from 2500 - 2800 RPM, much less and it bogged, much more and it sits and takes a smoke break... then we get to the LS6, (2002 vintage), it doesn't have that huge TQ feel at the bottom to launch at very low RPM like the L98, but just get the tires rolling and then hit the hammer and the C5/ FE4 chassis suspension does the rest for you, (make sure the TC is OFF or in Competitive mode). If running a L98 from a stop, you would see his rear quarter panel first, then a very quick fly-by of the whole car as you simply run past him, probably about 2/3 through first gear, or at the 1st 2nd shift point depending on the launch.
They are all fun cars to drive though.

I'v owned all 3 motors. the LS6 is best off the line. I think my LT1 might have been a little better off the line than the LS1. When I would race LS1's with my LT1, I would hold my own, and sometimes be about 1/2 car on them until 3rd gear...that's when the LS1 would pull on by.
I doubt that the additional 15 ft lbs under 2000 rpm would be noticeable in a drag race situation. Especially since most people tend to launch around 2500 + in the Z06.
I understand that for Autocross however those L98 are quite formidable, the extra torque would be more usable here and on the street under normal driving.
Looks like we are all pretty much in agreement here on the benefits and advantages of various engines, power trains, and suspensions of days gone by. To bring the discussion back to the point...
C5alive was asking about the "off the line performance of the LT1 against the LS6..Are we all agreed it is LS6?
Doc
Just to confuse things a bit more, the LT1 in my 94 9C1(ex-state police car)along with its 4L60E trans and 3:23 rear gears,is quicker off the line than my Z(if both at idle). For about 6 feet, than its bye-bye Caprice. Has anybody have any 60 ft times at the drags to compare the ZO6 and LT1s? I think maybe that would tell the true story ( as long as both were on stock tires, same track, same ,blah, blah, blah, etc. Buy the way Doc, I agree. ZO6
