Owner claims 112HP from headers, intake, and tune

So I'm reading the local paper and there's an article about how this guy has an 03 Z06 that is making 517 HP. His mods are "...a VR twin intake ram air system, an oversized Granatelli throttle body and mass air sensor, stainless steel long tube headers, and a trick Billy Boat stainless exhaust system" and a tune. I need to look up the guy that did the tune to see if he could get an extra 75 hp from my stock setup

Here's the article http://www.kansas.com/126/story/163653.html

517 at the motor?

That'd be roughly 440 at the wheels? Stock cars dyno what, 345rwhp?

I guess it could be possible

Re: Owner claims 112HP from headers, intake, and tune

I can see uncorrected dyno numbers of a super cool dry day being around 440rwhp....

...if the car had a nasty cam as well....

But not from boltons only. And most defininately not SAE corrected number either.

Those mods, on a stock '03 Z, would get you about 390 rwhp.

He's going by the hp increase that vendors use on product advertisements and adding them all up.

Gotta be it, since several of those parts do very little.

I'm definitely calling on that one! That guy is a victim of "Dyno Deception" of the worst kind! 390 at the tires at the most, and probably less than that because that Granatelli crap he has on there usually causes a HP "loss"! There should be a law against people claiming that kind of BS!

Your wrong, Jimbo!
Since this was printed in a newspaper and the internet, it HAS to be a fact since both of those mediums are 100% honest.

Re: Owner claims 112HP from headers, intake, and tune

When I was in high school, I had a `63 Ford Falcon. About all I could afford on my lawn-mowing money was some doo-dads from J.C. Whitney! Every thing I could bolt-on which claimed 12-15 hp. Dump a can of this in the gas tank, pick up another 10 hp, etc., etc. I put all this crappola on, and voila - NO DISCERNABLE DIFFERNCE WHATSOEVER! Not saying that headers, catbacks and intakes are in THAT league, but mfrs' claims tend to be a bit optomistic in most cases. That notwithstanding, I picked up about 60 crank hp with intake, catbacks, and longtubes and a dynotune. Which is right in line with most (plus or minus 5-10 hp) others with similar mods and tunes.
