i'd actually like a yellow one, but most that i find are silver or black, color isn't a big thing for me, price and condition are a must, i'm a bargain hunter, and i know my cars from growing up with a mechanic for a dad

still waiting on the z06 to materalize in my driveway. shouldn't be long now.
my dad has been through 4 porsches to my 2 vettes (02 Z06 and 96 LT4). Having driven a 911 converted to a 935, a 996 and now his Cayman S... the Z06 wins hands down... because it is NOT as refined. The Z06 is the perfect balance between absoluet beast and refinement. Much more refined than the C4 but not over the top like the Porsches are.
Please don't flame me but growing up the Porche was always my dream car. I don't care much for the Boxter but from the Cayman S up they still turn my head. When it came time to spend my money I chose the best bang for the buck in my Domestic dream car the Z06.
Seriously, I had a 944 S2 cabriolet (1 of 200 in the country) and a tune up was $1400. Tires are tires, but anything "shop related" is going to cost MORE than a Corvette would. I had mine for 2 years and traded in on a 1996 Corvette. That, was a mistake in itself because the 1996 Corvette was SLOWER than my 4-Banger S2. (It was a 3.1 Liter, 16 Valve 4 Cylinder).
$1400 gets you belts and cam chain guide. That's every 40k-50k miles. But yes, the maintenance is far more expensive on P cars. I've had 5 of them and drive a 944S daily. My vette gets out of the garage every few days and weekends.
If Chevy could buy their transmissions from Porsche, you'd have a helluva good car.
I test drove them both, along with a few others in the $30K range... and here I am as a Vette owner again. The P is one heck of a fun car to drive, but to me the Z was equally fun, a bit quicker, cost less to maintain, and throw in the fact I am a flag-waver and I love to choose American made when I can.
ooooo what if i can talk her into a regular c6? those can be had pretty inexpensively... then i can get the c5z and have a c6 also. only thing is she doesn't like cars with long hoods. her favorite cars are the gti and the new beetle... and i'm sure not buying a beetle.

Cool! So you know my pain..... When I saw the bill, my jaw dropped and I was lke WTF? But I shouldn't have complained because when I bought it, (10 years old with 70K on odometer) it was Blue Booked at $25,500. Th eguy had it listed for $15,500 and said he didn't care about the money, just wanted to get rid of it because he came into some large sum. So, with a threading top, I hinted at how much would it cost to replace the rag top and he immediately dropped from $15,500 to $12,000 on the spot. Said "That's as low as I will go..." I said SOLD!!!! I still wish I kept that rare beauty.
To this day, 5 years later, I have only seen 4 in the USA and 5 others in Germany. A total of 9 in 5 years. Very rare. Shoulda kept it!
