Just curious...does the Carbon Fiber hood on your commerative edition match the rest of the car? Mine seems to be just a shade lighter than the rest of the car. More so since I Zaioned it. Depends on how strong the light is, but it is definitely noticable.
My Saleen did the same thing when it was new (it has the optional carbon fiber hood), where the hood seemed to get a bit lighter than the rest of the car...I ended up repainting it to get it to match more closely. Just wondering if I'm gonna have to end up doing the same thing with the Z?
From my understanding, the first ones built came from an outside vendor. Then complaints started coming in, and now GM manufactures them in house to prevent further color and alignment defects. Apparently the early ones wouldn't match up correctly both in alignment and color matching. Just fyi. C.J.

Mine's not an early one though. It was built in December. It does look in a way like it was painted separately from the rest of the panels.

snakecharmer,
I think you hit the nail on the head. Based on your build date, yours was probably one of the cars that was built and waited to get a hood. If you remember, there were reports of lots of Z16s sitting behind the factory without hoods for several months. There is one member whose car was built in July, but his car didn't get delivered until about November because it was waiting for a hood.
Mine was built July 18th so mine was an early one. My hood matches the rest of the car fine, but the panels were probably painted all at the same time.
cjtunes,
Did GM really start manufacturing the CF hoods themselves instead of the vendor? That is the first I have heard of that. I knew they were having problems with what they were receiving from the vendor and rejecting many of them before they even painted them in BG.

My Z16's hood matches perfectly with the fenders.
Was viewing a TV program that showed the building of a Corvette and noticed that the rear fascia and nose were separate than the car on racks.
Has anyone taken the tour at Bowling Green? Do they paint all the parts of the car together or not ???
Jeff, from what my salesman at Kerbeck told me last week, the early hoods (he didn't say how early) were made outside of bowling green. For every 10 hoods that arrived, the rejected 8! Then the top brass figured to alleviate all the complaints that were soon to develop, they started doing everything in house. C.J.

cjtunes,
Thanks for the info. I didn't know GM had that capability in-house. No wonder it took them so long to get the issue resolved and production was halted for so long. Did you guys know that all Z06s were supposed to have CF hoods starting with the intorduction in '01? That is what one of the Z06 engineers said in Nashville. Apparently they couldn't get all the production issues worked out until this year. They thought the supplier could only build about 2000 units per year, so that is why they decided only the Z16 would get it, and that (and the wheels) would limit the Z16 production.
