A bunch of local Vette enthusiasts (18) got together today for a little cruise. Six Z06s showed and a Banner shot was taken of the owners which will be posted soon. One of the Z06s was a Lingenfelter Supercharged beast. We did two 65 mph in third gear pulls into 4th. My little old stage 1 head and cam car was able to stay within a car length from 65 to about 100, but when we went to 4th and our rpms dropped to a point where the sc'd car had the lower rpm torque advantage, that car just surged away from me. Those thing make some monster torque across the whole rpm band.
I was happy I could hang around in third gear and suggested we go to high speed road course and get them nice and hot after a few laps and then repeat the 3rd gear test.
Well Ron, you need to see if DRM can put one on your car. How much HP do you think you'd make with, say just 6lbs of boost.
I have to send DRM an e-mail telling them how great my car has been running. The little bit I get to drive it, it seems to get stronger as the miles tick by.
Dennis, then I'd have to dump the DRM heat extractor hood for one that would work with the SCer. Man, I really like the DRM hood. I do have the ported tb and am now making 415 rwhp (corrected) on an independent dynojet. I attribute about 8 rwhp to the tb and about 8 rwhp to additional computer tuning Doug did to get my a/f ratios from high 11s to 1 to high 12s to 1.
I'm still noticing some mild pinging once I get into the 5k+ rpm range. You can tell I'm not letting it wind-up much past that in the video - if you listen closely on the first run we did, you can hear the mild detonation right before I shift and just before I let off the gas at the end of the run. I'm running 93 octane, so I don't think it's the gas. Also, the motor was fine temp wise for both of those pulls at ~200-205F. I'm thinking some minor dyno tuning is in order soon.
Odds are your Windows Media player is out of date or doesn't have the most current CODEC. (Most likely reason the clip didn't play after you downloaded it.)
Also, I'd investigate an upgraded 'net connection. Dial-up is so VERY painful these days... especially for us Vette owners who are accustomed to SPEED!
Thanks Johnno. I'm using a brand new laptop I just bought with Windows XP, 512 mb of ram, a 30 GB hard drive, and a 15 inch screen. I didn't expect the player to be out of date on a puter that is 5 days old. I'm downloading the player now, only 27 more minutes to go. Double arghhhh!!!
You boys should have wrapped it all the way through 4th - to 150mph. I'd be interested to see how that blower peters out up high compared to the H/C decrease after peak. Kick ass cars guys!!!
Johnno, finally got my player to work. Nice job editing. I do have one problem though. The only time I see my car is as it becomes a memory in your mirror.
I wouldn't worry about it - as you have one hell of a nice car as well! Mine might edge you out on a straight highway run, but I'm sure the extra weight of the Magnuson up front (roughly an additional ~80 lbs) won't help me much when it comes time to slew through that autocross course next weekend.
I seriously considered a head/cam package before going with the S/C. But, I'm not into tracking/racing my car and I really liked what the S/C offered me as I'm more into the occasional hot rodding burst on the street from time to time... ok, lot's of times.
We both have real beasts - each suited for a different kind of application and should be proud of'em!
