Well Ive been waiting on a friend from the body shop to call me so we could paint my rear bumper. He stays busy, so I decided to do it myself! Turned out perfect!!! Cost $10.00 and looks like it came from the factory this way!!!!
used pin stripe tape to get started
ready to sand
sanded down with 400 grit
Wiped down with prep all
the masking starts...
The first and second coat
third coat
final
all finished!!! got a little clean up to do, but came out great! I used gloss black, because everyone else has satin or flat. Just trying to be a little diffrent!!!
Dude!!!! You are the man!!!! That looks awesome!!!!
Can you please tell us exactly what materials you used? Such as
2 Pieces 400 Grit Sand paper
2 Cans Krylon Gloss Black
Masking Tape
Today's paper
etc....
That looks awesome!!!! GREAT JOB!!!!

Thanks for the compliments! Its very easy to do. If your on the fence about this, go for it! I used pinstripe tape to outline the area, then masked. I used 1 piece of 400 grit paper to sand. Sand just enough to get the shine off the paint. Wipe down VERY WELL with prep all. Wipe down again just to be safe, and if you think its ready to paint, wipe down one more time!!! You dont want any small particals left over, it will show with black. Then I used dupli-color gloss black from autozone. 2 light coats with about 15 min in between coats. Then 2 med coats with 15 min in between also. Then give it about 30-45 min, make sure you have no runs or trash. Then wipe down again, and 3 med coats of clear. I used the duplicolor clear also. Wait one hour and carefully remove the masking.
There you have it...very easy, just take your time. Remember your not in a race to get it done!
hugoagogo,
As far as black goes, I was a guy who used a flat black there and it looked killer!!! He striped it with red pinstripe, as that is what was on his wheels. Looks killer!!!

You make it sound soooooooo easy! I might have to venture into painting my own rear section as seen in my madness photo. Two race stripes on the right side rear fascia.
Thank you for sharing your tips.
Supplies I see needed are:
Pin Stripe tap for outline of area to be sanded/painted
400 Grit Sandpaper
Prep All cleaner
Dupli-Color (Your color selection)
Dupli-Clear
Drop Cloths and newspaper to protect paint
Masking tape
Awesome!!!! You just inspired me to try this..... Thanks!!!
Post pics when your done!!! Just remember to take your time. your in no hurry. If you get a run, just let it dry, sand it out and repaint.
Good Luck!
Matt
Man that looks good, I have been thinking about doing this but my wife likes it the way it is, took me long enough to convince her on the rims so I will wait for now but it truly looks great. God Bless

Just completed mine with semi-gloss, and very easy to do. However has some faint bleed thru through the masking tape at spots. What can i use to get off the overspray? any ideas?

Hopefully you did not remove th emasking. From what matt says, sand down th earea in question and respray. Thats it.
I did mine too but I may not have primed/prepped well enough. I took my car to the spray wash and the semi-high power spray took some paint off at the edge. No biggie to me, but you can see a missing piece. hahahahaha
My ghetto style creation. I love it! Know why? Because I screwed it up. No one else. But I had fun doing it!!!
