The owners manual states: Your six-speed manual transmission has a feature that allows you to safely shift into REVERSE (R) while the vehicle is rolling (at less than 3 mph (5 km/h)). You will be locked out if you try to shift into REVERSE (R) while your vehicle is moving faster than 3 mph (5 km/h).
Well ! I was demonstrating the awesome power of the Z to my friend, concentrating on the road ahead. I was basically granny shifting throuh the gears. I'm at 145 mph looking at the HUD and the road. shifting, and I barely hear it (I'm partially deaf) grinding noise (twice btew) ! My god, I look down and I'm headed into reverse gear ! I'm thinking, this is not supposed to be happening ! And now I have a little trouble going into reverse at full stop (but not always). If I ease out on the clutch It will engage. I suspect I bent something.
By installing the CAGS defeat, did I cancel out this function ?

No. The CAGS solenoid only affects the 1-4 shift. There's a separate solenoid for reverse. I have a CAGS defeat installed and my reverse lockout still works fine. There are warnings in the owners manual about possible damage to the tranny if you try to FORCE the shifter into 2nd or 3rd when cags is engaged .. the same is probably true of the reverse lockout.

Ready to embrace the aging process, but I can't lift my arms.
I wasn't using any force at all. Just surprised that it happened for sure. Could be it was inop at the time ? ? Who knows, I'll get the shop to look at it next time I'm home.
5th Gear and Reverse are in the same location. If the clutch isn't engaged all the way at top speed in fourth it will not go in to 5th, unless it grinds the syncros. Mine is the same way the shifter does not want to go into reverse if im stoped, so what i do is put it in 1st and ease off the clutch and roll about 6 inches foward then mine goes right into reverse, no problem.
I have adressed this issue with the dealer and other Corvette Z06 and C5 owners and they have the same problem.
This is what you do go about 5 mph and put your shifter into 5th gear, then while its going foward in 5th stop the car and DO NOT touch the shifter and let off the clutch and you should start going in reverse.

This is incorrect. Here is a picture of the internal shift rail guide on the T56:
If you are able to hit reverse while moving, you have a problem with your reverse lockout solenoid. FWIW, by default the solenoid prevents you from shifting into reverse. IOW, if you unplug the solenoid, it will make it difficult to move the lever over far enough to get into reverse.
