Route 66 Trip

I recently had the oppurtunity to drive my stock 2002 Z06 out west and back. I rode many miles of old Route 66.
I totaled 5250 miles and got 24.8 MPG. It would have been more except for the couple of tanks where I was in national parks in heavy traffic and got less than 20 mpg. I saw 109 degrees in desert with AC on and temp of car never increased.
I also dusted a Viper in Phoenix that wanted to show me how fast his car was. It was a dream trip in a dream car. Buzz and Todd never had it so good.

Wow! that is allot of miles in any car. Sounds like fun. Spending that much time in any car can expose things you didn't notice before. Is there anything you would advise for those of us who might want to do a similar road trip?
Great first post btw. Welcome to the forum.

Route 66 trip

I really can't think of anything that I would do different. We had enough clothes with a couple of changes left over to make the entire 11 day trip without going to a laundromat. I had room for a cooler I filled with bottled water each day. I strayed onto secondary roads many times with no problems. I did have to stop several times to wash bugs off the front. I traveled only in daytime so as to be able to see everything. The car performed flawlessly. It makes entering a freeway a fun thing. I cruised at ~85 most of the time. I never get into that car that I am not impressed and I have never got out of it with out a smile on my face.
I think some reseach of Route 66 would have allowed me to access some parts I missed but I did drive a lot of miles on it.

Very Someday, I would like to do the same! Route 66 and Corvettes are both American icons. The TV series "Route 66" is what hooked me on Corvettes and the open road.

It would be nice to have a site sponsored cruise from Chicago to LA traveling Rt 66.

Just got back from a July 4th-week road trip from where I live (East SF Bay) to Las Vegas and back. My experience was much like yours, car never broke a sweat in the open desert with 100+ degree temps. and A/C on all the time.

Coincidentally we had a stopover in Barstow on Rt. 66 on the way out. Came back north on the east side of the Sierras and over the Sonora Pass.

The Z16 got lots of approving looks and smiles from folks on the Strip, and those mountain roads were just too much fun.
