I was out for a ride today when I heard a nasty noise when I was pulling up to a stop sign. I quickly shut the car down and looked under the hood expecting a tree limb or something. It turns out that my serpentine belt is shredding from the edge! There didn't seem to be any damage so I pulled all the excess belt and fired the car up and crawled home with the lowest rpms possible (I was about 1/2 mile from home.)
Has this happened to anyone out there? Is this an easy fix?
It happened to mine. As it turned out the Tensioner was going bad. Replaced it after I saw the new belt working it's way off the Tensioner. Also took out my Hood liner...

Tom brings up a good point, unless the belt shows signs of wear, such as cracking and the like, most likely there is a reason why the belt went. Most of the time it is the Tensioner. I have had GM products for years and have yet to own one that got over 100K without replacing the Tensioner.
Replaced the belt yesterday. Wow, it was a lot easier that I thought it was going to be .

Keep a close eye on it, I really do suspect the tensioner may be your root cause. If it was me I would hold off on replacing that hood liner for awhile... Good Luck
