Has anyone done a start button in the car? I've always like them and installed on on a previous car. Not sure where I could install on, but they are kinda cool .. I think anyway. You would still need to use the key to put it in the start mode.

Yea they have one .. so does the s2000 and the old Shelby cobras and most of the old Farrari's. I had one in my miata. They just give a nice "race" feel.

Physically? . . . . Rat shack, Arrow, Newark, DigiKey, any electronics supply shop. really, all we're talking about is finding a momentary that can support 12vdc at . . . . what, 5-10 amp peak?
More importantly, would be "where can the switch be safely installed" and "where can the existing ignition switch be moved to" . . . that damn'd resistor in the key will probably keep you from doing something silly like completely removing the cylinder and ignition switch, but still . . .
Actually, I had a push start button installed in my car about 6 months ago. I had a friend purchase a S2000 button and he removed the cover so it is just a metal button to push. We were stumped on where to install it, but decided on installing it in place of the cigarette lighter's space inside the center console. Perfect fit and no one knows it's there. The only problem with our cars is that you can't just put the key in the "On" position and push the button, but you have to turn the key fully, and then push the button. It's funny watching valets and car wash people trying to start my car because it won't start unless you know this "secret".
Originally posted by vette19 Could be an option but I purchased mine considerably cheaper from an import shop. Looks exactly the same, but I removed the annoying red cover.
How does it work? Do you still have to turn the key while pushing the button or do you put the key to ""on" then push the button to start?
I think what would work in a dedicated racecar would be to replace the stock "keyed" ignition switch with a Starter Button and possibly install an "Ignition ON" switch next to it.
If you are worried about theft in a dual purpose car I might suggest moving the "keyed" ignition cylinder to a covered spot such as the ash tray or center consol. This removes the key and fob out of site and also takes the key and fob away from the knee area where I am always banging it (6'3") while in my driving position.
While you are doing this, think about an external "Emergency Shut Off" or "Kill" switch for the corner workers, and Battery relocation to the rear.
BTW, You should be able to short the keyed switch "Start" position hot so that you would insert the key turn it to "ON".
Then flip the "Ignition to "ON" and push the "Start" button.
A better way would be to wire the "Ignition ON" switch 1st in the series so the juice goes from it to the keyed Cylinder then to the Start Button. This way the Ignition "ON/OFF" switch acts as an internal "Kill" switch.
