Tilt Steering Wheel Locked In Up Position

I drove My Z on my lunch hour today and when I parked it I pulled the release lever to move the tilt wheel up and the wheel slipped out of my hands and sprung up hard. Now I can't move it. The release lever will not move forward, its stuck.

This also happened a couple of months ago and when I tried to move the wheel the next day it was OK.

Has anybody else had this problem? How do I fix it?

When I got home from work last night I wiggled the tilt release lever and worked it free. It appears that the tilt wheel has at least 6 locking positions of movement and a little free play or movement at the upper position. When I released the lever to move the tilt wheel up yesterday and it sprung out of my hand, it apparently jammed the release lever between the upper locking point and free play in the up position.

Since no one responded to my thread, I assume nobody else has had this problem. Maybe mine needs an adjustment. However, it is working fine now.

Nope.....You're not the only one. Mine did the same thing about 3 weeks ago. I had to work at it awhile but finaly the lever popped and the steerring wheel came free. Since then I've been very careful not to let the wheel bang off the upper stop. I'd hate to have to drive it with the wheel stuck up like a mack truck.

I am a "the cup is half full" kinda guy. So, just think of it as having more headroom until you get it fixed.

If you band really hard under the column and pull down it should work, the guy from mallet did this out at carisle and it worked.

Is there a typo in the first part of this statement?
