Live Chat Available for Z06vette.com
Instructions on using a Chat Client instead of going through the Z06vette.com site
The following instructions will allow you to access a Live Chat Site for Z06vette.com via a chat client. This is more reliable in some cases than the web site based Java client, sometimes it is not as stable. Either way it gives you more flexibility. The regular chat hours are Sunday nights at approximately 9 pm Eastern Time/ 8 pm Central Time.
Instructions
First you must have a program called an IRC (Internet Chat Relay) client. This is a program that is like your email program and there are quite a few choices. The most popular client is Mirc and it is available at
http://www.mirc.com there are other clients like Pirch available at
http://www.tucows.com by looking up internet programs/ IRC. You must download a chat client if you do not already have one. I will give the instructions for Mirc because it is the most popular client. After you download Mirc, install the program and open it.
When you open Mirc you will see the top toolbar and it will have:
File / Tools / DCC / Commands / Window / Help
The second Toolbar will have Pictures:
Lightning Bolt/ File Folder and Hammer/ File Folder with a # + / and many other icons. Click on the 2nd icon (with the file folder and hammer)
Next, you need to fill out your name, email address and pick a unique nickname. Pick an alternate nick name so if someone already has your nickname you won't get kicked off.
Now, if you have a new version of Mirc then you may have some boxes to fill in above your name and email address. You may have a box that says IRC server. You can leave the word all in that spot. Below that box it should have a second box. You should type in Z06 Chat in this box. Then click the ADD box to the left. You will get a second box.
Type Z06 Chat in the first box labeled description.
Type miami.fl.us.othernet.org in the second box labeled IRC server.
Type 6667 in the third box labeled Port.
Leave Groups and Password Boxes empty.
Then click Add.
When you get back to the first box you can click Connect to IRC server.
If someone is using your nick name and your alternate nick name
then type /nick (and a new name) and hit the enter key.
There are tutorials available on the
www.mirc.com site and there are many other help sites about IRC on the internet. There is also a set up explanation at
http://mirc.com/install.html
Once you get connected click on the second tool bar, third icon with the # + in the folder.
Click Add a channel to the left of the box
Type #Z06vette for Channel
Nothing else needs to be filled out
When you get back to the channels folder highlight #Z06vette
And click join.
For other things that you can do with IRC please investigate the IRC sites on line.
If no one is on the channel you might want to email em or check back later.
