On my way home from work today, passed one Chervron station selling same for $2.62 per gallon. Yikes, I thought we were kickin ass over there in the middle East, yet gas prices seem to be skyrocketing (again). Glad the weather is still nice enough to ride a bike instead of commuting in my C5. I get ~40mpg on my bike, but not nearly half as much in the vettes. 405hp under the hood is absolutely worthless in stop and go traffic all week long, so we are spending all that much more for gas and can't even joy what it is paying for. :flaming:
whatever is the cheapest I can find...Kroger, Flash Foods. I may start using Sam's Club, but I have to get some opinions on using only 91 octane...but that's another thread
Chevron 91. GM has a bulletin on gasoline and recommends gas with a high concentration of detergents to combat the dreaded fuel gauge snafu's. Short of that, Union 76 100 blended with 91 hi test. UnoCal even has a blending chart to help you. 3 gallons 100 and filler up".
Works great
Either Shell or Exxon/Mobile 93. I'm thinking of trying 110 octane aviation gas. Anyone out there ever try that? Sure is cheaper than 104 octane race gas.
fwiw, i've been warned away from avgas for car use by a racer friend who also is a pilot. he says they put lots of additives like anti-icing chemicals and such in avgas and it's not good for your car engine.
my 03 drank mostly sunoco 94 except when we went cross-country and then it was the highest octane whatever brand i could find. my 04 has had nothing but ultra 94 since i brought her home.
Your Pilot / Racer friend is correct, I have an A & P license and was taught that AVgas has additives that burn differently from Auto Gas. Planes fly at high altitude, so the gas burns much different. In other words your engine will self destruct.
Premium gasolines (actually all gasolines) are commodities with set specifications that are delivered into pipelines from the refineries and commingled at breakout storage terminals. The only difference is the additives that are injected at the company terminals. Also there are exchange agreements between the major oil companies that allow them to market in areas where they do not have refineries/pipeline system. So you may be buying Mobil but it was actually produced at a BP refinery or other major oil company. Mobil additives would be injected at the terminal. This does not apply to Sunoco 94 and the specialty racing gasolines.
I use Chevron and Union 76 in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Bottom-line in the Bay Area it's all the same gas with a few different additives (brand additives). I think it's more important to pick a station with new tanks in the ground to ensure quality fuel.
If you like good gas dont move to colorado. We have fuel in the fall and winter with an additive called mtbe. This methanol is not only hard on the aluminum components but really rumbles down the exhaust pipes acting like a miss. The best pump gas is a weak 91/93 octane. I used Sinclair fuel and it really sucks. Not to hijack threads but how much octane is too much in a stock Z. We can get 116 race gas for about $4 a gallon. Is that too much octane for a 10.5 to 1 Z?a tank of gas lasts about a month with how much I drive car .

I use ExxonMobile just because they put in a new station just down the road. I dont think the fuel is the issue... rather how old are the station's tanks and also how long they wait after having them filled to when they start pumping gas. When they fill old tanks, they stir up the water on the bottom. If they dont leave it at least 24hours, they water does not have enough time to settle and ends up in your fuel tank.... therefor a reputable station will have more reliable fuel source
Well when I started this post I was a loyal gas buyer. (Amoco or mobile) Now I buy what ever is the cheapest! And guess what? It has made no difference!!! After the price went up, I said the hell with it. (price over $2)
Boy, $2 is now a bargain. It is now over $3.139 where I buy.
