What to expect

Ok, as you can see I’ve been lurking on the lists but have only posted twice. I’ve been looking for some info that I’m sure has been answered a million times before, but I have not found it via the search. I have a problem … I’m an adrenaline junkie. I love speed. To cure this I’m looking for a 2002 ZO6!

Here are a few questions:

I know the looks differences and the engine differences but what are the other differences … how dramatic are the differences in handling?

Any other amenities that the C5 doesn’t have that the ZO6 does?

I hear many people buying their Vettes from the dealers recommended by this site, are they that much better in pricing? How difficult was it to work over the phone and net? Did you get what you expected?

Lastly, I’m looking to buy this month or the next, what kind of price should I strike for? I know they are looking to move these out so they can make room or the 2003’s and figure they should be able to make pretty good deals (I don’t expect to hear any real numbers of what you paid, but they would be nice to know for comparison, you could always send them to me directly).

Thanks in advance,

Brian aka Gammara

Brain,

Handling is much better in the Z06 versus a standard C5. The Z51 option will close the gap, but I think it is a bit stiff.

The C5 does have a number of "luxury" options that are not on the Z06. Best way to find out is go to a site like edmunds.com and compare.

IMHO, the Z06 is the way to go. I like going places and not worrying that I don't have the best Corvette ever.

Now if you are thinking about modifying the car alot, maybe a non-Z06 C5 would be the trick. The coupes back end allow for more top speed. And the motor can be modified to make as much as a modified LS6. The lower price of a non-Z06 would make more sense.

Again, I bought a Z. I am GMS eligible, so I could have bought a $48K+ C5 for $40K. The Z06 is not eligible for that, so my decision cost me $10K at the time (not now with better pricing). It is worth it...big time.

Plus this site is great! Welcome aboard.

I'm sure everyone has their preference on Dealers, but are we seeing big savings by going with them? I saw a post (I think) that someone had negotiated a 2002 zo6 into the 44k area. Is this true or smoke and mirrors? I obviously want to get the best price and can hold out a bit for the 2003 to arrive, do you think 44k is do-able? I’m trying to save as much extra as I can for mods (I live real close to Jeff Nation and need to be able to stay within eye sight of him on the road ).
