Window tints

Wondering if anyone has had luck with tinting the top part of the rear window. The place I did it at can't get the tint to stick to the top of the rear window b/c of those black circular things it has there. Can't notice it from the inside, but it doesn't look that great from the outside.....is it possible to do correctly?

The small black 'dots' must be removed for the tint to adhere to the glass properly. I don't know how to do that, but I read that using steel wool might work. You try it first... and let us know how that works.

I took off my tint carefully with an xacto knife right where it meets the dots. I then painted the inside of the window over the dots with black paint. I used black automitive base coat, which dries real fast. From the outside it is absolutley perfect, could not be better. The inside you cannot even see. It does not block visiblilty one bit and it does not even come close to blocking my V-1 rear sensor at all. Try it, you will be very happy with the results!

I had it professionally done, I honestly don't think it's worth it doing it yourself, especially if it takes the pros a few hours. According to my installer, the FRC is a pain in the A**.

Did you spray it, or paint it with a brush? Is it a flat paint? Sounds like a great idea. It is the only reason I have not had my windows done yet.

I have heard the same problem from other people but I believe if the installer knows what he is doing, it should not be a problem. My tint on my SS went on fine and looks great after 3 years.

Ths paint is black automotive base coat, as in base coat clear coat. The paint dries immediately and it dries flat. Of course on the outside it is not flat, it is a perfect match to the window tint. I just tried to take pics of it but it just looks black and dark. I brushed it on, because no matter how lousy you brush it, it will be perfect from the outside, it really is just that easy.

Same thing here. It was a huge job for my guy to complete. Looks great, but was very time consuming. I would not try it myself. It was much easier to pay, than go nuts with aggrevation.

Mine was done by a professional, he couldn't get the dots perfect, he kept saying wait a little longer then press them out with a plastic squeegee.

Also, Baron. If you are taking off the tint that is over the dots make sure you get all the residue from the tinting glue off the glass. Also, I used a fine line tape along the window tint edge, then some 2" masking tape over that to make sure I never painted the window tint and it butted up perfectly to the tint.

Hopefully when I drive it up to DC this week, I can find someone to fix it proffesionally....I mean it looks fine from the inside, but HORRIBLE from the outside.
Can anyone in the DC area recommend a good tinting place which could handle this?

In the past I found if you shave them down with a razor blade it smooths the surface out pretty well and the film will lay down just fine.

How dark are you going
