Heres a list of "sports cars" that offer sequential shift technology..
Ferrari..(not a real sports car?) Enzo..360 and 575
Lamboghini is coming out with this technology for the Murcielargo
Maserati
Aston Martin
Porsche 911 (2005 model year)
Audi TT
Alfa Romeo
BMW M3 and upcoming M5 (the non ultimate driving machine?) BMW is quoted as saying it may only produce SMG M versions for the M5 as its just consistantly a faster car.
Hey JBsZ06,
You need to add the BMW Z4 to the list, We,ve already put in
a few of them. The option code for it is 206.

I had heard the Z4 was getting them sometime in the near future..didn't realize so soon though.... Thanks for letting us know its production ready..
I'm just somewhat disappointed the M series engine isn't yet scheduled for the car..(I heard demand on just the M3 is using all the capacity available) (is it 120 engines a day?)
Which SMG tranny is the Z4 using at this point..the one with 2 or 3 available shift programs..or the full boat version like the M3..
Aldrich..have you noticed a marked difference in all out performance on the two variations(3 program vs 7?) of SMG technology BMW is offering..
Aldrich..since you work for BMW have you heard any response to the new dual clutch sequential unit being planned for Porsche/Audi...(U probably couldn't tell us but I thought I'd ask anyway)
I forgot.. I said I wasn't going to go off on a SMG tangent again.... Just goes to show you..." Never trust an Sequential shifter maniac like me..
i heard about the 3 selection SMG, and i want to share a thought. my buddy has an SMG M3 and he says he only uses 2 of them. 7, the full race mode is so quick, that the other modes become useless to him, and he admits to using the automatic mode once or twice when he was dead tired. I dont think it should be viewed as a worse version (unless the 3 modes are slow shifting), but instead it should be looked at as more simple.
another note one BMW: whyyyyy did they do that to the 7 series... whyyyyyyyyy

Y'all need to differentiate between a regular "auto tranny with torque converter" and some type of race electronic assisted/clutch-less shifting system (which is not truly an auto tranny - but an automatically controlled manual transmission)
It should be plain to see that if given the choice between SMG style paddle shifting and a 6-speed gear stick shift, we as enthusiasts would choose the SMG.
I think a few respondents are assuming that the choice in the poll is between current 6-speed and SMG - it actually looks a lot like the poll is between 6-speed and torque converter.
Would the poll poster please clarify. Between which two technologies are you asking us to choose?
Yes i would buy an automatic z06. Every car i have owned has been manual up until i bought my C5 A4. I drove my 5-speed eclipse to work everyday through heavy traffic and I got so sick of the stop and go routine. The same thing with my 69 Camaro. I used it as a daily driver with the 4-speed m-22. Yeah manuals are fun on roads where traffic is limited but in the way i use my cars its only a headache. I changed my Camaro over to the quickshift bulletproof TH400 and ithe car is much quicker plus I have the pistol grip shifter from hurst and it is just as fun to drive a the m-22. But when I was looking into buying my first corvette I definately wanted an automatic for reasons as I was going to use it as my daily driver. Plus with the way I travel it would be much better for me. I wanted to the Z06 for the LS-6 only but in no way did i want a 6-speed. I don't do roadcourses or anything of that nature which is the perfect area for the z06. I am more into 1/4 mile racing and stoplight showdowns. The ultimate thing for me would be an a4 z06 with a good stall. That way when I am at a stoplight the beatings will commence as the a4 is much more consistent and you dont' have to worry about missing a shift. I know a lot of people consider automatics for people that can't drive but I honestly prefer automatics over manuals if I have to use it as my daily driver. The only way I would have a manual is if I lived way out in the country with no traffic and a lot of road with no traffic. That would be fun. These are my opinions only and i hope i dont' offend anyone.

No offense taken..The automatic can be blistering quick and certainly better as a daily driver..

Yes, I meant the A4 as we know it now (but beefed-up to handle the extra torque of the LS6).
JB is right, I took my last drive of the year today. Washed, dried, cleaned out and tomorrow I call my insurance agent to cancel road coverage. Looking back, it's been one of the best summers ever....highlighted when we met so many great members at the Z06 fest!!!!
Personally, I think GM should offer an SMG "Option". It would still allow those that want to enjoy clutch and gear shift days and those with physical limitations to still enjoy the thrill and power of the Z.
A major joy in driving a high performance car is the shifting. Get a lux machine with a slush box if that floats yr boat but its just an exercise in pointing the car, not driving (IMHO).
