Z at the pump........Bring your C.C.

Have you guys noticed that when you are pumping gas and it gets to the full mark it clicks, then if you try to round off the number to the nearest dollar, you wet your pants...............Whats up with that. Its hard to pay cash at the pump because the Z wont let you put anymore gas in after the first click....

Anybody else notice this.

Its not wise to top off anyway. It can cause problems with the emission control systems.....It can even make the car throw codes in some cases.....

Best to not top off Just carry some change in the useless cupholder

Your right JC! They changed something at the fill pipe that collects fuel vapors and that's the reason why they say not to top off after the first time it kicks off. I was just talking with a tech about 2 weeks ago, who was working on a car that overfilled and I can't remember if it broke something or the car wouldn't start. All I know is the car was towed into the place and that was the reason why. Hopefully someone will chime in with details....

Hhhmmm - everytime I fill up I squeeze the last possible drop all the way up the fuel fill tube.

I need to - especially before I go for my "back woods" runs - and because my average MPG over any given weekend is about 10.5... LOL

I have yet to have any issue after 17,000 miles of "to the gunwales" fill ups...

I'm a gunnels kind of guy also, but I make sure I drive it 10 or 15 miles before I let it sit in the hot Florida sun.

There is also something wrong with the new fuel systems used on the later built 03's, when trying to fill up the tank. The pump will shut off after only a couple gallons and the tank is not even near full yet. Mine did this today and several other times in the past. I've read other 03 owners complaining about this same problem. Some have been able to pull the nozzle out a little bit and then it fills up ok. I tried this with mine and the pump still kept kicking off.

Sure with the new fuel system, no more fuel gauge problems. Now the new problem is trying to get fuel into the car.

Toms03Z,

Interesting, when first reading your post I assumed that the fuel neck was changed, because I had a couple of cars over the years where you had to back off the nozzle some to fill the car. But given that it does not work every time it sounds like something less obvious. Has anyone done a part by part comparison of the differences yet? From what I read so far it sounds like the biggest pain is if you want to modify the system to pump more fuel (ie mechanical not container changes).

You can still buy gas with cash? I don't think I've been on the inside of a gas station to pay for anything other than a cold one in 10 years.

BTW, I have no trouble topping off to an even 25 cent boundary...

After the first click even if I pull the pump out a little to fill some more, it begins to gush out. Another words, after the first click it is at the maximum it can hold not letting me add more to get to the nearest dollar.
