Z06 01 -> 02 performance

What is needed to get a 2001 Z06 to at least the 2002 Z06 baseline of 405hp? So far I have put the Vortex ram air on. I want to stay with bolt on to keep my remaining original warranty and my extended warranty intact?

Next step is to put headers to eliminate the pup cats that are on the 01 not the 02. The only other major difference is the cam.

Good Luck

The 2001 has pup cats and a main cat. If you eliminate the pup cats do you have to replace the main cat with a 2002 so it will pass emissions?

Thanks for the response.

My understanding is that you would be OK for smog testing. The Precats are just smaller and closer to the heat source so that they heat up quicker and therefore are up to temp within the time that the rules state. When you get your car smogged they don't wait for the car to cool down before starting the smog test they just stuff the sniffer in the exhaust and monitor the output.

I do not believe for emissions it will matter any. I don't know that for a fact, but believe the pup cat was for noise reduction more than emissions.

Good Luck

OK so just idle a short time while in line before you get tested. Gotcha, thanks. What is your preferred brand of headers?

I used TPIS header that probably run about $900 plus install. There are several brands that other forum members like, you could search under headers and there has been quite a few threads on headers. The shop that did my mods carried that line, and it has a good rep, so that's what I went with. They work just fine so far, no problems at all.

Good Luck

My pups went when my TPIS headers went on. I got inspected this year and scored a 20 on the hydrocarbon test. They fail you at like 320 here in NC.

Just gut the cats and the borla stinger and a T1 will get you to pretty spot on stock '02 performance if not higher.

Bullet:
Will you elaborate on (gutting the cats)I have heard this term many times but dont understand is it like a waffle in there? and you open them up?
Will that cause codes to appear without the Ls1 edit?
Also you say and Borla stinger are you talking about installing them or (gutting) them as well?
Thanks, Er
