Z06 Praise

I'd just like to give the Z06 some praise, from a member of the opposite camp.

I just got done with my blower install on my Cobra and had the chance of running my friend's stock '01 Z06. We only ran from a roll, and the race was determined by whoever had the better rpm for his car at the start of the race. But overall the cars were even. That is amazing since my car puts down almost 80 more hp to the ground. We are only talking straight line here as well. I would hate to see the outcome of any run on a road with any curves.

Once again... you guys are lucky to drive such a great car.
-Peter

NUXX....

My Q/S Z06 appreciates the kind words.
Though I've never been much of a "Ford Guy"
(there's that "F" word again)
I bought my wife an 02 GT Mustang, (her choice) and, I have to say that I'm overly impressed. I don't know where else you'll get this much performance for under 30K. God Bless American Iron.

Nice story, thanks for sharing. I'll never understand why people do this Fo*rd sucks, or Ch*vys suck or Dod*e sucks thing. I say drive what you like and I'll drive what I like and if we don't drive the same car, great because if we did the roadways would be very boring. We don't need bash others for driving a differant brand. Bill

What Boss said, there are too many cool cars in this world to get into "mine is better than yours" fight with everyone. Thanks for the kind words about the Z, it is a special vehicle. Enjoy...

Nuxx,

Thanks for the comparison information. By the way, I think that the Cobras with the bigger "nostrils", those oval intakes on the hood, look really tuff. I also think that you guys have a great stock exhaust sound. Both cars are great, just different.

This car was my first car about 5 years ago. I've been happy with it. Maybe a Vette is next.

Good comparison and your dyno numbers explain the outcome. Although your HP is high, your Torque is almost dead even with the Z, thus the even race. Many folks with smaller modified engines, especially ricers, think that because they are putting out 500+ HP that they should be able to beat a Z. High HP and low torque is an unfortunate side effect of lack of displacement.
I am however a closet Mustang fan and almost bought one before deciding on the Z06. Maybe I'll have both some day.

Yeah, but same torque and more HP is overall more power than the Z06 has. What you're missing from the equation as to why it was an even race is that the Z weighs less than the Cobra by a couple hundred pounds. I'll bet the power to weight ratios were very close, hence the even race.

And I agree with 70boss302 - I don't understand all this brand bashing like Ford sucks, Dodge sucks, etc. I'll buy a car from just about any brand as long as its something I'm impressed with. My daily driver is a '96 Ford Contour SE, which has been a great car, and I plan to keep it until the wheels fall off. Just because I've had a great experience with a Ford, does that make me hate Chevy's? Obviously not, I just bought another one! If I had more money, space, and time, I would buy a Viper too. Do I care its a Dodge? No, because its a great car on its own merits. If I had the money for the best performance sedan, I would buy a BMW M5 without thinking twice. When the Contour dies, I'll probably replace it with another performance sedan with a manual tranny, probably an Infiniti G35, Altima 3.5 SE, or an Acura TL Type S. And I would still like to own a Chevy Avalanche to tow my boat with ease. Great products come from different companies - can't always generalize that one brand makes the best of everything.

Welcome to the forum nuxx!

Nice post and nice thread.

I love driving my 5.0 LX and the Z06.

I just have to remember not to shift the old T-5 from 5th into 6th gear... ah, that would be reverse.

Welcome to the Forum

I Love my Z. I miss my Mustang at times(not that I'd go back). I loved the way my Mustang looked. ATI 11lb, Inter-cooled, Baer Braked, Fun car. I drove a freinds 01 Conv, and that did it for me.

I'm glad to see a Cobra driver here. Remember, economy of scale... More gearheads=more toys from Detroit=twice the bang for the buck...

I was getting silly about having a supercharged Cobra next to my Z. Now I can start getting silly about having a GT40 sitting there. I sure hope Chevy keeps up with the Blue Oval in the toy department...

Wow you guys are a lot more mature than most car people I run into. Yeah I love Kevin's car... and it's the "slowest Z06 ever made" (385hp 01). My clutch decided it didn't like the new found power today... so it looks like my car will be down for a few days.
