Would be great to get some other Z06s out there...
Originally posted by No Doubt I've got a little over 500 miles so far on the Z. Think it's safe to take it on a track? If so then oh my, it might get dirty!!
Yes indeed.
Just change the oil, bring an extra quart to the track just in case and be ready for some fun.
We will have instruction at Ground School on what the flags mean, driving lines, car prep, etc. and at the track there will be instructors including (David The Rave Sklover) to ride the track with folks showing them how to get around it without ending up in the weeds.
Having no road course experience myself, I plan to be in the back of the beginners group.
My rookie experience (one w/e at Road Atlanta) says to keep the A/C on at all times. It will keep both fans on and your water temp will not be a problem. Put the one additional quart of oil in that morning. Don't worry you will burn it off by the end of the day.
IF you drive your car very hard and the "high trans temp" comes on the DIC, just do a cooldown lap and take it into the pits. You can hit the reset button and it will show you the actual temp. I think the warning comes on at 270*F. It should cool off enough for the next session. Open the hood and leave it open after every session.
Take plenty of water with you. Drink alot after every session and try and go to the restroom right before you go out again.
You might see oil temps in the 270*F-280*F, I would consider this normal for track driving. From what I understand the "High oil temp" warning will not come on till 320*F.
