King County front plate law

My G/F was pulled over yesterday for no front plate and I was wondering if anyone local has anything on the front plate law. Couple things strike me as odd. First she was chased down over the course of a mile with no lights. As soon as he moved in behind her he flipped them on and she pulled over. If an Officer is going to speed between traffic shouldn't he have his lights on as a safety measure? After being pulled over he asked her for her home phone number which he wrote on the registration and then took back to his vehicle where he sat for over 15 minutes. When he came back and issued the infraction it's labled as traffic. I thought front plate infractions are nontraffic. He also didn't explain what she was signing and why or what her options are for handling the ticket.

Any info on what the officer's protocol is for issueing a ticket and what exactly the law is for front plates?

i dont think it should be under a traffic violation....i have gotten 2 tickets for no plate and they didnt go on my driving record....they were 71.00 each and i still will never put a plate on my vette......the officer asked why i dont have a frt plate on the car and i told him it makes the front of the car look ugly!!!!he agreed and wrote the ticket anyway.........just pay it and dont worry about it saying "traffic" it cant affect your insurance rates

you need your front plate so when YOU are chasing the cops they can see your plate number...

I know this rule is in Texas also. Been pulled over 2 times in my turck for speeding and they saw that I didnt have one and both times the cops said they didnt care.

Almost every cop that has pulled me over for warning or ticket were always nice and just told me to becareful. Ticket or no ticket.

IMO the only reason we have a front plate law in this state is for generating tax revenue. By that I mean the license plate is a nice flat piece of metal mounted vertically that reflects radar and laser energy nicely when an Officer is trying to get a good reading on his equipment. Much better target than a sloped Vette nose.

I can't speak for your state and may be completely wrong here. In my state you are not an emergency vehicle without both lights and sirens and technically are not supposed to speed. This rule is often broken so that the violator is not given a chance to get a head start and "run for it" or "turn off" before we turn on the lights. It is also a safety thing for officers, not allowing a bad guy time to prepare an assault or retrieve a weapon, change drivers, hide the bottle, make a phone call, throw out the drugs, etc, etc. Most officer's want the stop to be a surprise so they wait till the last minute to hit the lights. I do it too, it's part of our training.
There IS a space for telephone numbers on the front of the summons in NJ now. It is the one item that the officer could not obtain from the paperwork and he may just be very thorough in completing his summonses. (The fact that he asked for it up front,( the phone number) makes me think he had already decided to issue a ticket. Probably just a stat guy. Not much you can do about it. They're out there.) It is used for the courts to contact people with court date changes etc. Is there a space on the ticket for a phone number and did he write it on there?? I never ask for phone numbers. I always felt it made motorists, especially females, too uneasy. If I was a girl, personally I'd give a fake number or say I didn't have a phone.
As far as traffic or non traffic. We call it points or no-points or moving or non-moving in NJ. I think no matter what he checked, it will get classified in the proper category in the state computer. He can't decide on the street level to make something a "gradeable" or non-gradeable" charge. It is what it is. He may have just checked off the wrong box.
We don't sign tickets in NJ so I don't know what that's all about.
He wrote her phone number on the registration?? Guess he didn't have his own notebook. That's real professional?? Cross it out.

Joe

6 books, 10 to a book. All blank and ready to go

Just kidding. I rarely write tickets anymore. Only when they pertain to a major crash investigation I am working on. I believe I wrote about a dozen last year.

Sounds like the cop who chased down your girlfriend was a moron who could have hurt someone for a stupid assed infraction. If I was you, I'd somehow contact his precinct and complain about his tactics.

The no front plate ticket is a "non moving" violation ... so again this cop was a moron. I'd take it to court and have the judge throw it out since this cop doesn’t know WTF he's doing. He was probably just trying to get a date.

Personally, I run a front plate behind a custom flush cover so the cops don't have an excuse to screw with me.

After being warned for no plate I've been running this cover for a couple of years with no problems.

Best looking alternative I've seen for running a front plate on the car. Any details on the cover? I still think the front plate law in this state is BS. C5's by design cannot even comply with law. The bottom of the front plate on the Z were I to mount it would sit 9 inches above the ground. That's 3 inches below the legal limit. The whole thing is still sore.
