Search keeps failing

I have been trying for 2 days to do some research to determine the wheels I want to buy for my car. I go to the advanced search page, enter keywords like "best chrome wheels" or "stock wheel replacement" and get a "web site cannot be displayed message. I even tried limiting this to just the Pit Road forum, etc... and STILL no luck. This has happened over 2 days from 3 different computers using 2 different IE browsers and 2 completly different ISPs. Is the search engine broken? HELP????

Trying using a single word instead of multiple words. That method works for me.

When you get the failed screen hit the "reload" (doubleheaded arrow) and it may give you a new search screen. I don't remember how I learned that but it works.

I also put a + (plus) sign between words.

Thanks FiveOJoe, it does give me the search screen again when I reaload, but that doesn't give me any search returns. And adding the plus sign between between words doesn't seem to help either. I really hope a moderator will take time and help me with this problem. Not being able to search the Forum will make it unusable for me.

Well, it is a known issue when there are too many matches, such as 'wheels'. One that is not easily resolved unfortunately. To fix this will require an operating system upgrade, and we are not financially prepared for that at this time.

In the meantime, some people have found workarounds, like using more specific strings, see above, or you can use Google to search our site by doing this:

Go to Google and use the following line:

site:z06vette.com [YOUR SEARCH TERMS HERE]

Google has indexed most if not all of the forum threads, so this should help until we can fix the issue.

Sorry for the trouble, we will address this in the future.....

Thanks N4C5S. It just hadn't been a problem in the past and so I thought there was reason to bring it to someones attention. I appreciate you taking the time to explain. I will use google for the "nasty" searches.

Yea, the version of our DB software is not really meant to search 1.1 million posts with the frequency that it does. We're getting to a point where we are looking at that next big upgrade, I'll let everyone know when we reach critical mass and bite the bullet.
