02 intake filter and open intake change.

I drove my car today for about an hour since I changed the intake filter to a K&N and also changed the stock intake box (lid) to an open type(less restrictive).

I noticed my first couple high RPM runs I was surging in 3rd gear somewhat. So I kept it up and after the 3rd run the surge was gone and the car was pulling as hard in 3rd as 1st & 2nd.

I'm not sure but I was either loaded up (I drive hard) or it was the time it took for my computer to learn the new air flow.

Any suggestions or comments appreciated.

I have found through my own tuning that the re-learn takes a bit longer than an hour. I like to get approx 200 miles in.

Ripper:

I ran at WOT through 3 to 4 gears about 3 times in that hour or so. In comp/mode.

I'll be putting more miles on as the weather gets better.

Appreciate all comments. I'm very impressed with this small block.

For the $$$ spent these are going to be legendary cars for collectors down the road without a doubt.

Anyone who hasn't driven a Z06 can't appreciate these cars.

I think these cars have already reached legend status. I have 10 year old kids coming up to check it out in parking lots that could rattle off stats about this car.

And what a beautiful day in the GREAT PNW to make an impression on a young man! Anyone who didn't get out and drive today, either had to work, or needs a frontal labotomy!

Good job JZ!

So did you modify the stock 02 airbox lid? Or does someone now make an aftermarket lid that is even more open than the 02 lid?

JZ -- I hope you have a seat cover on the passengers side .

There are several after market houses that sell this open lid intake filter box. Check with some of our supporting vendors ads as they have pictures of them.

The box cost about $69.00 and a K &N filter $49.00

Money well spent as the car really does run better.

FYI****
I didn't use the provided filter seal or gasket as it was to tight. Several 02 cars have had the same experience with the K&N filter and have had no problems.

Good luck.
