1 yr., 15K miles, almost no wear?

I just wanted to share my observations on my 1 year old Z06. I have 15K miles so far and am on my second set of tires. The first set gave up the ghost at around 14K, with the front tires more worn out than the rear. Other than the tires, everything on the car is stock and original.

I checked my rear brake pads last week and noticed that they were at 90%. I was shocked that they were barely worn! (My 96 Camaro actually wore out the rear pads much faster than the fronts.) I was kind of hoping to change the pads to HAWKs that I recently purchased.

I know that my front brakes work much harder than the rears because I get about 10 times more brake dust on the front wheels. Today, I checked the front brakes and saw that I still have 75%! No need to change the brakes yet. Next, I checked the brake fluid with a turkey baster. It was only slightly darker than new fluid so I didn't bother to change it. I will order some Speedbleeders and SS brake lines and do a complete fluid change as part of the install.

When I checked the clutch fluid, I saw that it did need changing. It wasn't terribly dark in color, but it definitely wasn't new anymore. The old fluid came out with the Oneida turkey baster and the reservoir got filled with Valvoline synthetic DOT3/4. This is the first time that I checked or changed the brake and clutch fluid. I didn't check them before because I never noticed any loss in performance from either system.

I drive my car everyday and take all surface streets to work. I rack up some highway miles when I go out of town occasionally, but I'd say that I use a lot of brakes and clutch and put most of my miles on local streets. I've put my car to the track on 4 whole days where I locked up the brakes often, downshifted into turns, speedshifted on straightaways, etc. No dragracing though. I am surprised that there is so little wear on the fluids and brakes but I'm not complaining too much.

Anyways, I was wondering if other people are seeing the same rate of wear?

BTW, I've gotten four problems fixed by the dealership so far: differential leak, PCM related starting, fuel guage failure and A/C odor. If these problems stay gone for good and no new problems appear, I will be a very happy man. This car is awesome! Mine is bone stock except for an 02 airbox, Ripper and !MAF screen.

The things I would change on my 01 are to go to a much stronger clutch (so that I can chirp 4th) and to get a faster rate steering box (so that I don't have to move my hands on the steering wheel in the tightest turns). Oh yeah, and about 100 more RWHP/RWTQ would be nice too.

TITANS/Z, thanks for the info.

Bro I have had my Z about a month now.

Just changed the oil at 2,079 miles.

I am racking up the miles, I love it.

The data that I documented above is only my own experience on my vehicle. I suspect that others will have drastically different outcomes. For example, I have read that it is very common for people to go through a set of brake pads in less than 10K. Also, many owners are changing the fluid in the clutch reservoir every month. I'll probably do this twice a year from now on.
