well i just returned last night from A&A and I couldnt be happier. its about 130 mi drive from my house to A&A and on the way there my avg mpg was 27.3 @ 70.2 mph......after the tune, 36.2 mpg @ 71.2. I am still amazed by this, but it just goes to show what a good tune and tuner(Charlie) can do for your Z. 399rwhp 388rwtq with only LT's W/cats, vararam, bassani cat back
On flat ground crusing in 6th you can get great mileage no doubt about that. 36.2 is a tad high but good going on that one. That had stop lights at both ends so I think on the highway I could do 33-34 if it's pretty flat.
If you let up on the throttle ever so slightly the current mpg as displayed on the DIC will show some crazy number. I've seen 80 mpg with my puny 427 in 6th at 70 mph. It means nothing.

Of course it's fun to point it out to a passenger who owns a hybrid.
im not talking about the instant mpg...that will go as high as 99.0. im talking about the avg mpg. there is a difference. My avg on the hwy for 130 miles was 36.2 says the computer

If I was worried about MPG, I wouldn't have purchased a Z!!
All that tells me is your LTFT's may be too lean!!
My cam makes me run at least 2000rpm in 6th on the highway!
Could I use that as an excuse in traffic court??
Anyway, that comes out to 82-85 mph and I never use cruise control! I get about 30 on LONG runs, like a full tank trying to get across Texas stuff!!
What if the PCM mathmatically averages all instantaneous mpg readings and displays it as "Average MPG". In that case as the number of crazy instantaneous mpg readouts increased so would the average mpg.
In other words if you coast a lot or back off the throttle a lot, as can happen when not using cruise control, your average would be greater. If you're doing 75 mph and reduce speed to 70 your instantaneous mpg increases dramatically. This in turn results in an increased average mpg. The mathmatical average of a bunch of 99's is greater than a bunch of 19's.

that all depends on how far youre going.....if you travel a mile and do what youre saying than yes you could get something like 60 mpg coasting but very slow, but if you travel a distance like mine for example there is no way around it. i kept an avg speed of 71 mph so i think there is some truth to it. if you coast a lot youre still going to have to get back on the throttle to keep your avg speed up.

The only sure way to know what kind of gas mileage your getting, is to reset the trip when you fill up and put a couple hundred miles on it, and fill up again.
That way you know for sure
I would have to say that it is impossible to get that good gas mileage consistently. Maybe on this trip you did, but you will see that is not the norm.
Tthe best mpg is usually around the 31 mark which is great. Another 5 mpg would be tough to get out of the car.
No matter what 30 mpg for a sports car is great. Of course I average about 17 mpg - and much less at the track...
