70 HP Add Ons - WOW!

I was putting gas in my 'Z' last Saturday when a guy walked up to me and asked how I liked the car. After I told him, I found out that he didn't really care - he just wanted to tell me about his 'Z'. He had his at Sears Point learning high performance driving. His was better because he put an intake and filter, plus the Diablo program on it. He said that added 70 HP. I asked if he dynoed the car. "No", he said but that's what he figured it should be.

When I threw the flag and told him that I had $100 that said he wasn't making 350 + 70 HP at the wheels, he said that we would have to disagree about that. I told him that he would be lucky to see a 20 HP increase. I guess I should have just smiled, said 'WOW', and let him think he had the badest Corvette around.

Or maybe take the BSM off if he has them for another 50, Wait a minute maybe he already added in the extra 50 HP for removing the BSM. Now it makes sense 20 plus 50.....

Like I tell the ricers when they claim "horses" they use Seahorses or miniature horses.... I just use Clydesdales! so I dont have room to add many.

I picked up 0.3 sec with the shorty antenna, 0.2 sec more with the Z06 exhaust plate (both aid in aero) and another 0.1 with Lloyds mats (better pedal traction).

Future mods: high performance trunyion bearings, high flow modulator baffle (descending), lightweight turn signal fluid. Total gain estimated at 85 hp!

I honestly can't stand people like that. However, IMHO (sorry if this offends some) this is the _typical_ C5 owner. They have no clue how anything on the car works, so they take all the manufacturer's claims, add them up, and come up with a pie-in-the-sky figure. Chances are good they have never operated a screwdriver or a boxed-end wrench in their lives, either.

Just b/c you have $$ does not make you smart, and quite often it gives you a great chance to show just what an idiot you are (b/c if you have some $$ then people listen...if nothing else they want a piece of what you have. So you command some attention, even if you haven't earned it.)

Fortunately, on THIS particular site, we have more gearheads. Not all of us turn the wrenches on our cars, and as I get older (35) I operate with a little less zeal towards bending over the engine bay all day long. But, at the very least, most of us on this site research things ad nauseum, and use some common sense.

This is going to sound bad, but I hope lil' Johnny in his blown 5.0 Mustang walks the dog with this clown. 70hp from a couple of mods? Uh, huh. Right.

I thought I got a "deal" on my Magnacharger.
A measly 100 + - HP for a few thousand $$'s...and to think I could have done it his way much cheaper.

I could have used the extra $$ for a nice big wing!!

I was traveling through southern Maryland last week when I saw a guy with a QS Z06 filling up with gas. I asked him how he liked his Z but what I really wanted to do was tell him about mine. You see I just got a new intake and filter put on and tuned it with the Diablo program. When I told this guy that I had picked up over 70 hp by doing this, the guy just started laughing and saying "BS". I don't know what his problem was or why he was being so mean. I just wanted to talk about my car

I was driving through Maryland last week and I saw this guy towing a Neon Race car with a Black Corvette hauler. Said he just made a bunch of mods and was headed down to the track to try them out. Pretty handsome feller too, black cowboy hat, looked like one of the hollywood acter fellers.
