Anyone trim their hood insulation for TRAP clearance?

I installed my TRAP today and ran into the usual issues of hood clearance. It's a tight fit to begin with and required several adjustments during the install to get things right. I'm considering trimming my insulation for a little more room. The hood requires a push to shut now and I want to get back to how it was prior, shutting with a gentle drop from a couple inches. Like the title says, anyone with a TRAP cut their insulation?

Another thing, during my computer relearn drive I noticed a light whistle at 3-3500rpm under moderate acceleration predominately in 3rd gear. I could not duplicate the sound with reving at a stop. It occurs only while actually driving and then not at all times. Everything is sealed tightly and aligned correctly. I'm wondering if the AIR hose might be a source of an air leak. The elbow fitting is flush with the filter but I suppose it might move out of place enough to cause a leak when the engine moves. Any ideas on this one?

I am sorry to see this happening to you. Mine is the same way exactly. This is the whole story and drill maybe you will end up as satisfied(i dont think i am but i keep on convincing myself) with it.

First i had some mechanic install it according to the video that can be found on their website. He did a great job as i was looking over and noticed that he was doing everything the way everyone would have done it. He closed the hood and everything was fine. Next few days i notice that the hood liner is getting pressed on, yet this is acceptable as i dont care what happens to the hood liner. A week or so later on i start noticing a buldge in the hood, like the one you described. Thats when i took it to a performance shop and asked how them to either fix it or remove it. What they did was push the bridge more towards the engine. That helped as we closed the hood and there was minimal effect. Next, after a couple of weeks i notice the buldging starting to creep up again. So i leave the hood open for a day every two weeks and thats enough to cure the problem. I belive some have shimmed the piece under the bridge. That is not an option at the time but it certainly can become one. Let me know if you have any more questions, or better yet let me know if you find a sloution. Here is a thread i started over at corvette forum that Jim Hall and a few others responded with some useful information.

I noticed when I installed mine, that if you do not push the air bridge far enough back, towards the TB, it will rub. You might want to loosen the clamps and make sure the AB is as far back towards the TB as possible. This solved my problems with it touching the liner. No problems on a buldging hood here.

I remember talking with you about this issue on your car. Mine doesn't seem to be pushing the hood as bad as yours, but it does touch. From reading the replies to your thread it sounds like any touching of the insulation is the result of misalignment. Jim says it should clear the insulation completely. I guess I'll go back and work with the alignment of the bridge and TB alittle more. I have it as far back as possible now, but perhaps have overtightened the clamps causing it to lift off of the radiator shroud.

Remember, if you overtighten those cheap worm clamps, they'll bend/break. You may want to get some new clamps and try again with help from a friend. You really need 3 hands to get all of the pieces together right and still tighten them completely.

FWIW, I had no trouble with my TRAP when my car was NA and I still use the lower portion with my Vortech supercharger.

Mine came in today. If there is a way for the bridge to clear I'll find it. If not, it will be for sale Monday!

Hmmmm, might be a good excuse to get the MCM hood!

Well I took another look at the bridge this morning and got it to fit without touching the hood. My hood closes like it did before adding the TRAP. Looking thru the bottom or front of the open hood and using the front emblem as a guide the lower bridge looked off center by about 1/2 inch, so I loosened the upper bridge at the TB and centered the whole assembly. I also found that the upper bridge was about an 1/8th inch higher on the passenger side so I twisted it and retighted everything. The upper bridge was resting on the radiator cover before but needed to be leveled. Seems to be fine now. Its amazing how little room there is under the hood and how such slight adjustments can change things.

Hassan give me a call, I'd be glad to try and help you out.
