I am looking down the road at my options and have noticed a few people have gone the LPE tt 427 route, which is VERY nice, but seems quite rich.
I know you get what you pay for, but how does this compare to the cost, reliability and durability of a '42x' package with a vortec or ati?
So far i figure, a 427 is about $20k + $7 for the blower and $1.5k for a good intercooler which leaves about $1.5k for good tuning, equals $30k.
What have i missed?
The only one i am aware of that is close to this is Mikez06 but i dont know if this is complete, as yet. Anyone else gone this route with a story to tell?
It is tough to convince the wife that $50+ large for engine mods is worth it, when i could buy her a new 04 vert for the same money.
Ian, I think that the LPE TT package is an awesome deal and I admire the folks that went that route.
It is my personal opinion that you can get a reliable 4xxci S/C'd engine in your Z for less than the TT route.
I am using a stroker engine as opposed to the C5r engine and so my costs were even lower than your original figures. If you take out the costs for headers, shifter, exhaust, etc...You can get into a 427 with ATI Procharger (including twin intercoolers) for about $22,000 not counting install. Add in another $1000 or so for 8 rib pulleys to avoid belt slippage on the Procharger and you're around $23,000.
The 427 has totally forged internals and the heads can be modified to lower the CR for the blower all within the above pricing.
Not sure if this was your exact question, Ian but maybe it will help.
btw, FRCTom is also going this route but is using a 454ci instead of a 427ci.
Ian don't forget whichever way you go you probably invest in a good set of brakes and a minitub for a larger tire which means new rims too. This drives up the cost too.
There is a guy on the CF(High RPM) that did a 427 C5R block with the ATI procharger. MMS did the install. I think he was going to take it back to change the cam and different heads to get better flow. I don't remember his numbers, but you could do a search.
Personally I went the TT route because there was still belt issues with the ATI and I'm not sure if they have figured out the right stroker combo with the ati. The LPE is proven, documented and warrantied. Also if I want more I can add an adjustable boost controller later on down the line. Doug
You can have LPE install a twin turbo on your stock engine for about $23,000. If you want the 4277TT with built bottom end it will cost around $50,000. You can also easily spend another $25,000 for wheels, brakes, heavy duty clutch, radiator, oil cooler, tubbing etc. I do like the street-ability, reliability and stealthyness of the TT but have to admit to a little bit of envy, on occasion, when I do hear a SC/Cam car idling, and that may be on a car with several hundred horsepower less than I am running.

Great sounds Tom. That Procharger sounds like a jet waiting for the ok from the tower. I think the solution for me is to get a high power stereo amp and just play the appropriate sounds when the occasion calls for it.

Once you get your Quicktime cut outs on you won't here a thing.
Here is my car with TTS headers, cat delete, and the back half of the Borla XR pipes.
I got pulled over the first night along with 1fastdog and Bluzbrutha. http://www.c5frc.com/sounds/straight_ pipes.MPG
Just a quick story about the Lunati crank in the MTI stroker.....
MTI didn't pin the crank before they shipped it (not sure why?) and when MCRacing started to do the job, they began with just a high speed drill......nothing, not a scratch:eek:
They then tried it with a carbon bit.....just a little mark, about the size of a pin head:eek:
Then they went and bought a special titanium bit ....finally success
