broken wheel stud

I'm in the process of swapping out the black anodized centers on my CCWs for polished centers and while removing my lugs I snapped off a rear wheel stud. I was ready for a time consuming job, but I didn't need this!
Has anybody out there done this and had it repaired by the dealer? From what I understand it isn't that much of a job, but I'm guessing the dealer is not going to warranty this and I'm wondering what it will cost me.
I told my wife we must have gotten a car with defective wheel studs and if she really cares about me, we should get our order in for the '06.....she wasn't convinced
Obviously I plan on getting it taken care of this week, but hopefully driving around town will not stress the other 4 studs much until it's done.

YES, driving on just 4 lugs will weaken them also. I wouldn't do that.

I would have it flat bedded to the Dealer

That should be covered under warranty. Wheel studs shouldn't snap off under normal use so why wouldn't it be covered?

If I could ask, why are you changing out your black anodized centers? Did they get discolored? Are you exchanging them with CCW? Reason I ask is I just bought black anno streets from CCW. thanks

You are right, wheel stud shouldnt snap under normal use, but thats because they dont snap under normal use, they break because someone cross threaded the lug nut on.

I figure thats what they are going to tell you, and thats why it wont be warranty, unless they like you, then they might, or if you take your car there all the time. Who was the last people to have that wheel off?

I wouldnt worry about driving it there, you wont hurt the other studs, as long as you dont plan on an auto-x or something on the way to getting it fixed.

Probably charge you around an hour of labor and whatever the part cost.

gmblack3,
I appreciate the link. Very informative and if it should happen again sounds like ARP upgraded studs would be a good idea.

As far as being covered under warranty, I agree they should be---however I'm pretty sure I'll be stuck with the bill. (Anytime the wheels have been taken off or put on its either been myself or my trusty tire guy. We both use a torque wrench for tightening and impact wrenches haven't touched the lugs.....until now when the dealer is replacing the wheel stud!) But we've all had the same conversations with the dealer and it was something I did I'm sure!

I'm wondering if the heat here has something to do with metal fatigue. I've spoken with a few people here who have had the same thing happen on different vehicles.

My car not under warranty for obvious reasons. I had a lug nut stick to the stud and then strip out the splines holding the stud to the wheel bearing. Had to drill it out to get the wheel off.
I ended up replacing both my rear wheel bearings which come with studs. An afternoons work if you have the right tools (you need some torx nuts).
Good luck getting yours fixed.
