The idea is a technical, instructional book on C5 Corvette performance enhancement. This book would be about 150 pages, 8.5x11-in in size, soft-bound and all-color.
Everything in the book would be aimed mostly at do-it-yourselfers interested in improving the performance of their street high-performance, street/track or street/strip 97-04 Vettes. The book would have little or no material on race-only cars.
Most mods in the book would be bolt-ons but some would not be, however, non-bolt-ons would be streetable and, for the most part, DIY tasks.
The book would limit itself almost entirely to engine, transmission, rear axle, suspension and brake subjects. There would be little or nothing on bodywork, paint, vehicle electronics other than chassis and powertrain, car care, interior enhancement other than for performance or appearance items.
A fair amount of the book would relate to 01-04 Zs.
I'm interested to know what kinds of modifications, parts or other coverage the Z06 techies here would like to see covered in such a book. Please, confine your suggestions or comments to the above general guidelines.
I'd buy your book if you explained the function of all the tables in the PCM, included the relevant equations, cross-linked the common tuning names with the HPTuners names, and if you covered the following tuning types, I'd buy your book:
Narrow-band o2 sensor with MAF
Narrow-band o2 sensor with MAP (speed density)
Wide-band o2 sensor with MAF
Wide-band o2 sensor with MAP (speed density)
If your book only covered the above topics well, I'm sure you'd get lots of sales. I don't consider tuning a part of vehicle electronics. When I think of vehicle electronics, I think of grounds, stereo & lighting, V1 installation, and dash LEDs. Other things I'd like to see is manual and automatic transmission rebuilds, and differential rebuilds.
Its a great idea.
Be sure to include suspension mods including wheel and tire sizes that work. Also Engine and transmission cooling mods and issues. And don't forget brakes.
A consideration of the most cost-efficient strategies for achieving various goals would be great.
A lot of this is available here in unfiltered form, but I would certainly pay to get a book that put a lot of info in one place.
And I would guess there are lots of guys who don't hit the forums who would be interested as well.
Jim

I think it would almost be a mistake to NOT include some of the vehicle electronics tips in such a book. The common stuff like where to hook up radar detectors, fog lights, headlight & taillight replacement--in other words, the common mods.
Even some of the bodywork stuff--like needing a taller hood for certain types of blowers, or mini-tubs for such & such sizes of tire...
...and of course, the forums get mention in the credits??
How 'bout royalties?

I could use true analysis on bolt on comparisions using a stock Z. Really do some price and package comparisons to give us a better idea of fiunctionality. Be a consumer reports for bolt ons so to speak
You might think about a section for those interested in HPDE events.
I know that I jumped into this and got advice here from folks doing racing. Some of that was useful and some was overkill for my objectives. I would spend thousands of dollars less on set up now, with what I know and what I realize my aspirations are. Things like not going to full race pads unless you are very serious and want to deal with all the problems that come with those. Other ways around cooling problems - synthetic trans fluid and insulating pipesinstead of a cooler for example.
