I'm trying to disable the CAGS on my 02. I used the directions found on LS1.com, using 4 resisters in row to add up to 2200 ohms. I got a check engine light, so now I'm using a pair of 1/4 watt 2200 ohm resistors in parallel. The light hasn't gone out yet. Does it take a few driving cycles to clear this code, or is really still complaining about the impedence.
That's how I've always done it - and it's worked like a charm, obviously make sure you've got the right connector, the reverse lock-out solenoid is around there also.
Chuck,
I may be incorrect......but I do not think the light goes out........it just disables the function.......
Someone correct me if this is not true.......
Wiring the two resistors in parallel wouldn't work if my memory of circuits servers me right. That would trip a code bcause the resistance will be too low.
The equivalent resistance of resistors in parallel goes like this
1/Req = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 ...
So by wiring in parallel, you were putting a resistance of .55 kOhm in the way.
Wire the two 1.1kohm (1/4 watt) resistors in series and you'd get the equivalent resistance of a 2.2 kohm (1/2 watt) resistor.
Series is simple: Req = R1 + R2 + R3, 1.1 + 1.1 = 2.2

You're right - but he's talking about the Check Engine light - not the skip shift light....

Chuck
Those 2 resistors in parallel do not equal 2.2KOhms. Check your codes to see if one is indicated. You should be using a single 2.2 KOhm resistor rated at least 1/2 watt. Higher wattages (like a 1-watt) would also be fine.

Ready to embrace the aging process, but I can't lift my arms.
I took the Z into the dealer today for a oil change. While I was there I asked if while they had my car on the rack if they would install my CAGS eliminator that I had been carrying around for the last couple of months.
The service writer said that it might void my warranty if they installed it....but they would turn their heads while I put it on.
A few min later the "service manager" approached me saying that the CAGS would definitely void the warranty and that he had seen many transmissions tore up that had these installed. Said "it made the transmission do all kinds of things that it was not suppose to do"
Has anyone had any problems with this mod?
I am alittle hesitant to install it now and I guess I can live with the 1st to 4th thing.

He's full of crap. What kind of dealer do you have? Mine put it on while doing an oil change and said it reduced problems because people wouldn't be trying to force it into second.
By the way, I purchased mine and it not only eliminates the 1st to 4th but it totally disables the light on the dash. $20.00

That's pure BS. DISCONNECTING the cags harness obviously can't affect anything in the trans, except that the skip shift solenoid will never engage .. which it never does anyway except under certain conditions (1st gear, car warm, certain rpm range, etc.) The service manager is either a fool or a liar .. perhaps both .. and is just one more reason we should do anything and everything within our power to never let those jerks touch our cars. Apologies and retractions offered to any service tech who takes pride in their work.
