I know that there are heads & cam packages for the LS6, but if I could I would like to get a cam without the expense of the heads. Are there any like the GM Hotcam for the LS1 that increase power enough to justify the cost?
I bought LG's G5 cam, and the associated drivetrain parts needed. The retail on that "kit" comes out to about $950 I think.
Some other shops have theirs priced in the mid to high 800's.
I bought my TR 224 from Thunder a year ago for $800 on a group purchase rate.
The kit will usually included the cam, valve springs, pushrods, and retainers. Just about the best spring to use with stock heads and just a cam is the Comp 918 spring, which you can use the stock retainer for, so you COULD save yourself $160 on Ti retainers that way...up to you.
I picked up 30 rwhp with the cam and tuning, and that's on a conservative tune...

TAMUz06, 30 rear wheel HP is awesome. I figure a Blackwing and a cam and I should be on my way. Thanks for the info. I'm definitely going to look into it.
C5alive - We have a few cams that will work with the stock heads. You will need to upgrade the valve springs and retainers to compensate for the bigger cam. The cam should be able to pick you up 30hp. Give me a call if you are interested.
It's LG Motorsports "G5" cam. I used Comp 918 springs, Comp Ti retainers, and Comp 7.4" chromoly pushrods.
During the tuning I had them bump the limiter to 6800.
On cold startup it's a little rough, and wants to die sometimes, surges a little....also remember there is no hole drilled in my throttle body plate, that would probably help that some....once its warm, it's fine
Chris, do the cams you offer pass emissions? Unfortunately my county is pretty tough about emissions inspection. If it's emissions legal and the idle is OK, the power gains are definitely worth it.
C5alive - We do not sell any cams that we say are "emissions legal". Most of our customers are not concerned with passing emissions, so we have not put much time into having a certified emissions legal cam. I can tell you that we have had two customers say that there cars passed emissions in there state. Thanks for the question.
