My friend is getting someone to make real carbon fiber pieces for his 360. This is real high quality carbon fiber. Not plastic that's wrapped or looks like CF. It's the real deal and weighs nothing. I'm just curious if there would be any interest on the forum for real CF parts. Interior pieces, exterior panels, anything and everything. If there's an interest please post so I can show the guy this thread and I'll get him to become a forum vendor. I have no clue about pricing at this time. So just reply if it's something you would be interested in.
Thanks,
Gene

I want someone to make small carbon fiber body covers for the area behind each wheel. No more than 4 or 5 inches high and just about an inch of wrap around, flat against the body to protect the paint. Stick on with two-face tape.

Hmmm, sounds like a great idea!
You think anybody will be able to see the "BACK OFF!" Yosemite Sam when he's less than 4" high?? j/k!
Does anyone know how much lighter CF is than our fiberglass? And what about CF vs interior plastic. Would it be possible to get it to 3000lbs with driver with major use of CF?

In an apple-to-apple comparison, the weight difference between a sheet of carbon raw fiber cloth and a sheet of raw fiberglass cloth is minimal but noticiable on a scale.
In finished form, a molded carbon fiber part is normally left in its natural state (unfilled, unpainted), meaning you can see the fabric patterns through the hardened resin, while fiberglass parts are normally "filled" with a filler material to produce a smooth surface like the exterior of our C5. In that respect, the fiberglass part would weigh significantly more due to the filler material and the added resin used to bond it together.
On the other hand, a part made from fiberglass fabric without the filler stage afterwards, the end product can still be very light assuming a vacuum bag was used to squeeze out as much excess resin as possible.
It is really not that hard to work with carbon fiber or fiberglass faberics, the building process is essentially the same. There are many Composite 101 videos out there if you want to learn about DIY using this material. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/...struction.html
Aircraft-Spruce also sell all kinds of fiberglass and carbon fiber supplies. They're top notch stuff used to build custom airplanes. They also sell trial kits for educational purposes.
Id be intersted in carbon fiber interior panels. I bought the kit from Mid America and its terrible. The pieces look more like a black and grey checkerboard and not in very good quality IMO. Im thinking about the Eckler's kit. The picture looks more like real carbon fiber. My biggest complaint is that the pieces are too shiney. I want the carbon fiber look but not with the high reflective finish.
