Changing tire rotation direction.

After two open track events, my right front is starting to look pretty bad along the outside. I want to swap the fronts (left to right). There was a thread a while back with no conclusive information as to wether this is okay.

I know the Kumho Victoracer can be run in any position and any direction so long as the "side facing outwards" is such. Since the F1 Supercar tire is non-directional, I would hope the same is true for it.

Everything I have read about the tire says its assymetrical, but not directional. So it doesn't matter which side of the car its on.

I believe the tires do need to be on the same position they came on. Although the tire is assymetrical the pattern on the inside is diffrent than the outside for a reason. It will effect handling at least on wet surfaces.

02ZO6,
Not trying to argue but your statement is incorrect. As long as you leave the tires on the wheels and just swap the wheels with tires attached the pattern will stay as intended. Just visualize it, I did with my Z06 Die cast model on my desk.

As far as should you do it, I don't know. However I seen no harm in it as the tires are NOT directional.

Just my .02

You can do it, but I don't think it is a good idea. I have seen lots of problems( tire, pulling , ply separation, etc) over the past 25 years( since radial tires became the norm) but maybe tires have gotten better, and I am still living in the " dark ages"?

TRZ,

You are correct. I thought it was a tire only swap. Switching the rim and tire would not help even out wear unless the road course was left or right turn only like roundy round racing.

Running at BIR, the outside of the left front wears fast due to a 135 mph banked sweeper followed by a 125 mph flat sweeper both to the right. If I didn't swap the location of the fronts after 20 laps or so, the left front would cord when the right front was still in great shape. I've switched them many times and run those sweepers and the 160 mph straight leading into those sweepers without any tire problems.

Thanks Ripped.Z06. I got the notice of your reply post in my inbox at almost the exact same time as the following. FWIW

Hi Jeff:

Thank you for contacting our web site, we appreciate your kind words referencing the performance of the Eagle F1 Supercar tire.

This tire is of a asymmetrical tread design, meaning the tire must be mounted with the correct side facing outward to receive the full benefit of the tire and the tread design. The Supercar tire is not a unidirectional design and can be moved from side to side, as long as the proper mounting procedures have been followed.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the info. Baron

Swapped them this weekend for the Track Guys event at Mid America Motorplex. No problems. Thanks again for the replies.
