Clicking Sound Under Hood When Car Shut Off

Hi,

I have been lurking here for over three years and now have a question.

I own a 2004 Commemorative Edition ZO6.

Yesterday when I shut the car off I heard what I thought was water bubbling in the radiator.

I listened closely and heard what sounds like a solenoid clicking.

This morning the car was making the same clicking sound even though the car was turned off and had not been run since the previous night.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Lawrence

Lawrence ... welcome to
I have no idea about the sounds
bubble ... assume your coolant level is good and hasn't been recently changed
Click ... no chance it was just the cats cooling off?

He said that it was still doing it the next morning without the car being started again. Sounds like it is electrical but I know that doesn't help much. When you start the car keep an eye on the volt meter on the information center to see if it is charging properly. Listen closely to see if the car begins to lag a little when starting as well to see if the battery is being drained.

Re: Clicking Sound Under Hood When Car Shut Off

There are quite a few relays in the car, and there's are a few ways you might have a problem that would cause one to click intermittently. If the car is still doing it, I would check your battery voltage first (use the DIC if you have to, but a meter at the battery itself is best). If you use the DIC, with the engine on but not running, the voltage should be better than about 11.5V. If the voltage looks fine, start pulling fuses one at a time and see if you can isolate the circuit that's having the problem. Then, we might be able to figure out what's busted...

Thank you for the ideas, especially RocketSled's idea to pull fuses one at a time.

Of course the car is behaving well this morning.
