Diagnose this...tapping

Went out to start up my vette and the battery was dead...again.

I hooked up the charger and immediately started getting a tapping noise. The noise appears to be coming from the ? headlight motors?.. the rubber covered deal next to each headlight. They are both making the tapping noise and when I feel them I can feel a vibration in synch with the tapping noise. I raised my headlights and the noise stops. When I lower the headlights the light closes very slowly...like a 1/16th inch at a time and again in beat with the tapping noise.

Also, the needle on the battery charger is bouncing in time with the tapping noise, and between 13.5 and 14 volts.

Whatz Going on???? At this point I am still charging the battery and listening to the tapping noise. What should I try next??? Ear plugs? or is there something that I can do to remedy this situation?

Is this another " charge it and go?"

Based on your description, the headlight doors don't think they're fully closed and are not turning off, causing a constant drain on the battery (which explains why it's been going dead). I'll bet if you pull the fuse which protects the headlight motors, your noise will stop and the battery will hold a charge. This means either a trip to the dealer or the purchase of a HUGE extension cord...

Thanks for your thoughts Jerry. , I jumped the car and the noise is gone. This may be a blessing in disguise, as perhaps it is the headlight motors that are draining my battery. At least a good place to start looking.

My 98 coupe did the same thing. It only did this when I was charging the battery and it was extremly low. After it charged up it would stop.

That noise comes from somewhere up in the front corners when the battery is too low. I think it is a solinoid ar something
