If anyone knows an engineer who invented it, I'd like to kick them in the nuts
I actually think it is a good thing as they used it as a tool to get past some emissions and noise requirements. Then all we have to do is bypass it and voila, it's all taken care of with full performance.

You should be thanking the inventor - he eliminated the gas-guzzler tax for those who purchased the car new. A $20 part and 15 minutes of your time - and CAGS is gone!

I have the CAGS defeat on my '02 Z., but the 1 -4 shift light still comes on even though the system is defeated, is that the norm? What if you start in 2nd. if you don't have CAGS defeated as there are no driveabilty problems with the torque available with this motor.

Yes, the light still illuminates. It can be totally programmed out with tuner software.

Almost a year of ownership and I finally completed my first mod to the car - installed the CAGS defeat I picked up off Ebay. Now I have to wait until spring in WI to see if it works.
Went the lazy route and just drove the car up on my set of wooden ramps hoping to avoid jacking the car to install it. It worked, but if your Z06 has a spare tire when you're in the driver's seat , I wouldn't recommend doing it this way. Jacking the car definately would have increased the comfort in completing the process.
While I was under the car I had a general look around, and I was amazed how clean it was even after almost 10k miles. I've only driven it in the rain once (the drive home after taking ownership). But for a 8+ year old car to still have paper stickers / labels stuck to almost every part under the car I thought was pretty impressive. Clearly the previous owner drove it on sunny days as well, but I suppose if you only drive a car less than 500 miles a year you're going to be picky about when it comes out of the garage.
C'mon spring!
