Dumped the FLP's & got American Brand Racing headers! 415 rear wheel hp!

I had enough of those burning wire mild steel FLP(often rewelded)headers and had the Vette Doctors in Amityville, NY do the installation.

Keep in mind East Coast Supercharger and quite a few other vendors on this site carry this product so feel free to call them to order..This is just my personal experience and its been a good one.

I grew up out in long island and went out to have breakfast with a friend of mine I haven't seen in years so one of the personal reasons I chose the Vette Doctors is..there shop is very close to his house.(of course their sterling reputation too)

These guys truly exceeded my expecations for customer service. They are totally amazing. I love it when the customers satisfaction is the primary goal.

Chris and Doug at ECS are awesome too...like I said....I chose long island because wanted to see my old stomping ground as I hadn't been out in Long Island in years. (without rushing to do some bullsh!t) I was born out there and left about 22 years ago..to move to Northern NJ.

It was a cool visit with no rush in particular except he was driving into the city around noon to pick up his daughters stuff from College. While they were working on my car...We took a ride to see the Amityville Horror house? and then went to breakfast at some diner, we shot the sh!t....then checked out both the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky at local dealerships.... Nice cars.......especially on a sunny beautiful day...He was thinking it would be a nice car to the hamptons etc...

Anyways when we got back to the vette doctors before noon and these guys had the headers on.

I don't remember if it went in with a boom..zoom or whatever but those have to be the fastest installation of long tube headers.

The quality is awesome. The performance is top notch and the service definitely exceeded my expectations.

Now to the results....

I dyno'd my car at three other times in the past few years...and it dyno'd 396 rwhp and it was fast. I was always happy with it and then lately its been running a bit crappier. I thought it was a clogged cat.

I apologize up front as I can't give the same day same dyno information as one of my dual crane springs with 23K miles on it took a crap a few weeks ago..

The car was running pretty good but would fall on its face above 5500 rpms...It was a slight break on the top of the number 4 cylinder so the valve would just float up in the upper rpm range...

These guys had me up in running with a new set of comp 921 dual valve springs installed in less than 24 hours.

What could have at any other shop been a lengthy ordeal had me in and out like the true professionals that they are. (air shipped the parts in and installed/tuned and dyno'd.)

I don't like having my car sitting in a shop for weeks on end. I don't have patience for that stuff and these guys don't work that way.

I knew something was up prior to going for new headers just couldn't put my finger on it. I thought maybe it was the spark plug wires or maybe a clogged cat. (I had a recent issue with a bad coil that once replaced the car ran a lot smoother but still was not perfect)

Thank god for dual valve springs as they protected my @ss.

Stainless steel headers.. always...Vette Doctor American Brand Headers? Definitely a great way to go. No matter who you order from.

1491! Best money I spent in a long time.

I don't know all the vendors on this site who carry these but I know East Coast Supercharger who is also excellent carry these. 21st Century Muscle car also excellent! also excellent..AA Andy too..

I know the LG's are excellent as are the Kooks..so please don't turn this into one of those whose headers are best threads.......I myself was was debating back and forth which set to put on...Then I read about these new American Brand racing headers and the deal was sealed...

I met the owners...I saw the shop...I saw the care and excellence they build these with. I'm impressed.

Just a heads up for those shopping headers. Consider this a positive review of the American Racing Brands Headers.

One very pleased customer whose now throwing down 415 rear wheel hp/380rwtq...(remember it was different dynos different days...and a new tune to boot) so its not the perfect comparision....

Btw..I could have sold those FLP headers w/cats and xpipe to some corvette breathern for 400 dollars for sure.

I didn't want to do it to someone else. I hated those dam headers. I threw them in the garbage. I would have thrown them in the river but the river wasn't close enough.. I wouldn't sell them to someone else.....IMO I don't need 400 dollars that bad.

We got to look out for each other.

Hope this helps someone trying to figure out which headers to buy...Always buy quality is my motto.

That sounds like positive information to me!!! Glad all worked out for you JB.
I too have been hearing alot about those headers, good review. I'm sure the before HP hadn't changed that much, well I mean minus the misques but in general.

Now get that sig updated!!!!

Mike it was definitely a good experience. I tend to rate individuals not only on how they work in expected situations but also in unexpected situations...

Thats what seperates the men from the boys...

Thats what lifes all about...Sometimes you get smooth sailing and sometimes when the waters are choppy....The big boys get the job done and they do it with class.

These guys are a class act. I even said it when I picked up the car. I laughed as the words flew out of my mouth...I couldn't help but say it....They truly exceeded my expectations.

I met the guys from American Brand Racing headers as I walked through the shop.... This is a first rate operation. Top to bottom and everyone in between...

The American brand racing headers are excellent.

Upfront before I even started this project of swapping out headers.... I told Carmin I'm not a dyno "live and die" type of guy. I will say the car drives much better than the day I had the cam installed.. all the way through the rev band...

I really did this because I wanted quality products on my car.

I hope you guys realize I'm saying up front...it is not an exact science type of comparision because I had dyno'd the previous setup three other times in the past but NOT the same day...same dyno type of thing...I would have but the car was falling flat on its face on the dyno at 5500 rpms...before we swapped the springs out...

As I picked up the car, Carmin at the vette doctors was very clear about telling me these facts. The different day and dyno was his words...the better tune is my own..cause I'm drivng the car......Its just so obvious now as compared to the past few years....

Being 47 years old this year I always admire the people I do business with that are straight with me and deliver the product and services rendered especially in a timely manner...

Glad you are happy with the headers and the work.
I had some work performed by them a few weeks ago and was also very happy with their professionalism.
I do all my own work but if I need someone to mess with my vette it will be them.

JB I can't believe that it took you so long to dump the FLPs, knowing how happy you were with them

Congratulations on getting something that you wanted and that you are happy with the product and the work!

Congrats! I have been reading the results that people are getting with the American Racing Headers. It also looks like they are the hot ticket if you need a 1 7/8" header for for the 427 stroker motors. They are only manufacture that offers a big tube header (1 7/8) that has merge collectors.

JB, I put a set of FLP headers on my car and took them off before I even got a chance to hear them!

It was quite a stand-up move to throw them in the trash!

Congrats on the new numbers!

Ok I have a question...........................I have a big cube motor (447) and run the Kooks 1 7/8" header. What is the difference between the two and are there any true numbers out there showing any gains? I know you said not to start a "who's the better header" here, but I'm just looking for some hard facts and nothing more. Do they make a 2" header or something? Any info is greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry I can't give you an answer.

I would suggest calling the manufacturer or a supplier of these new products to get a more indepth answer.

The biggest difference is that the American Racing header has true merge collectors and the Kooks do not.

Let us know what else you find out.
