Engine oil temps and relation to ambient temps

After going to a couple DE's with my Z, I've hit almost 290
degree oil temps in only 70 degree ambient air temps.
I started holding a higher gear through one of the corners,
and it seemed to keep it a bit lower. I'm curious if anyone
thinks/knows if there is direct relationship between oil temps
and ambient temps--when it is 20-25 degrees warmer in
the middle of summer, will my top oil temps be 290+20,
or 310 ?!?! Yeah, I know that an oil cooler is calling my name, just
a bit concerned until I actually do pick one up--in the meantime
I'm changing the oil after every event. Thanks.

Although the oil temperature may be slightly higher it won't be in direct proportion to the ambient temp. Changing the oil after every event is a good idea but if you're seeing temps that high, which is common as you found out, an engine oil cooler is a good idea.

Even changing the oil after each event, although prudent, does nothing for the cumulative effects such high temps can have.
