Final dyno #s after heads and cam install

Car has 16000 mi. and is a 01 Z06.
Mods are:
MTI stage II ls6 heads
C2 cam
belanger headers
pulley
Magnecore wires, tr60 plugs
Shaner tb
halltech intake
ls1 edit.
no cats
The car pulled 426rwhp and 408rwtq after ls1 tuning. What do you guys think about my numbers? I'm after 440rwhp. Still have the stock ti exhaust, how much gain with an after market cat back and 3"piping?Maybe try the LGM super long headers.
Comments and ideas welcome, thanks guys

Hmmm...

A switch to the LGM long tube headers and a nice aftermarket exhaust would probably put you right at 440 rwhp ! Go for it. Nice numbers by the way !

Personally, I think its a little low...assuming its not a 100% emissions-legal package. The C2 cam is not gonna pass smog and you have no cats, so I figure that wasn't the goal anyway.

Granted, some better headers might get you to 440rw. Maybe that is what's holding it back some. I don't think the stock Ti system is that restrictive. You may gain some ponies with another system, but unless you choose the Corsa Ti you'll just be adding weight to the car...effectively negating some, if not all, of the gain you get by swapping to a different cat-back.

The TQ looks good to me, so maybe it just needs some more airflow in the higher rpms?

Did MTI have any recommendations? They have such a good reputation, I'd ask them. How does this compare to their other cars with the same package?

quicksilver, any recomendations on a good cat back/
WA 2 fast We don't have sniffer testing so the cats were not a concern, but you are right I was hopin for a solid 430rwhp. my torque curve is nice got 350rwtq at 2800rpms climbs up to 400+ and drops below 350 rwtq until 6400rpms

I'd leave the car as it is..I think comparative dynos can be overrated..

If you get the urge..try a used set of corsa touring or whatever comes along..for around 4 bills..throw them on and see if it was worth anything extra..I'd bet 4 rwhp ..based off of tests done by cartek..where they did a heads and cam package..then dyno'd with no cat back exhaust at all and then a stock ti. system..

I believe 4 rwhp was the difference..

I'd say..a 3% variance on hp is more than enough to consider yourself at your personal goal..I truly believe 3% is an accepted variable.

Enjoy the car..and keep an eye on the used parts section of the forums..

When and if you try the cat back if you don't like it..just resell it..

JMO and congratulations!

JB

BTW..the other side of the coin..some corvette owners state they get around 10 rwhp when used with heads and cam setups..or other modded car...

I'm not 100% convinced and would recommend aftermarket exhausts for sound ..

Exhaust

I would go with the Borla Stinger, or maybe one of the Corsa Titanium systems. Also, and x-pipe back there would probably be a good idea, especially for a few extra in the torque area. I have the Borla Stingers and love the sound but maybe too much resonance if you will be running with no cats.

JBsZ06 I agree wiht you I'm pretty close to my goal and the car pulls hard and nice. I would do the catback if I knew for sure It'll get me those 10 ponies I'm after, I guess I will have to do my homework on that.
Quicksilver the stingers are at the top of my list, they seem to average somewhere around 7-10rwhp on stock cars, maybe a little more in a modified car? hopefully someone with this experience will chime in..
Regarding sound, I've been thinking of adding high flow cats, if I decide to go with an after market exhaust . Anybody know if random technologies or car sound cats will hold me back on power?
Thanks guys, you are great help

This is a very good point, which is why I would only really compare it to what other cars with like mods have done on the same dyno. Thus my reasoning behind asking MTI what they think about the #s you got.

A 2-3% error factor b/w dynos across the country could put you as high as 435-439rwhp on someone else's dyno.

I'm sure you are 60+rwhp more than you had before, and that's great.

I don't have a sniffer _yet_ up here in N. Dallas, either, but I am going to try and get ~425+rwhp N/A with cats in place and with a cam that allows me to pass. We'll see.

Enjoy your car, and let us know if you get it to the track!

The Numers are not bad at all IMHO!

As far as smog...I wouldn't jump the gun so fast as to say that a C1 cam wont pass. Anyone here every smogged one? FWIW (even though mine was on a 114) My TR-224 cam passed VERY EASILY in California. I would really like to see someone smog this cam with tuning and see what the hydrocarbon numbers look like. (granted this is with cats. )

Dont compare your numbers with these 4XX RWHP (high 4's) These h/c packages dont have anywhere near as a small of a cam as you do. your cam is very streetable and a solid all around cam. These huge dynos on these h/c's have ATLEAST a average of a 227/227 duration with a 58X lift on it.

I would be pleased with your numbers!...

There is probably even more with changing the exhaust and fine tuning the computer...

I made 458rwhp and 420trq through stock catback on a 2001 so power can be made with stock exhaust.
The xpipe they made also helped boost power to 470rwhp and I am reinstalling it shortly.
Ask about better headers and x-pipe.

Never said a C1 Hammer cam wouldn't pass. He has a C2 cam. It's bigger.

Congratulations on your awesome car..

I have one question though...is it true that part of the X package is to notch the pistons for proper clearances?

Not that it matters but just curious if thats part of the package..

That might give insight..

Thanks

Yes MTI did say the car will put around 420 or 430 to the wheels so they were right on the money, but they also think there is room for improvement with after market exhaust. You guys are right the car is very streetable and drives perfect, I have no complains there. The car shakes a little, but I like that! All around I'm very happy wiht it, but if there is more to have its even better.
