Four Camera Video Setup - VIDEO and PICS inside....
This past weekend I attended the Tarheel BMW Club's "Tarheel and Toe" driving school at VIR Full course in Danville, VA. I'm currently assigned to the "A" Group, the most advanced non-instructor group they have. This was my 14th track event and the 12th that included instruction.
As many of you know, I recently completed a long installation of a four camera setup meant for taping track sessions. I finally got some real "on track" video of the setup and here it is.
To watch the video, which is in Windows Media format (wmv) at 14MB size, click this link:
Here are some pictures that I purchased that were taken by a professional photographer as well.
Hope you enjoy the video and pictures.
(I tend to be conservative on track, just FYI, so I'm almost never driving the car as hard as I feel comfortable with. Don't want to lose it and wreck the car...)

Why not loose the New Balance running shoes for some driving shoes? I noticed a big difference, particularly with left foot braking, when I switched to Simpsons from my Nike running shoes. Just curious because it's apparent from the video you know what you are doing.

What's involved in setting up the data aquisition for your speed, RPM, G's, etc.?
If it's not too much trouble, can you do a higher res video from the forward looking cam only?
That was one fast M3. Very good driving. I was trying to locate the car but didn't seem to have much luck. Tons of blue E46 M3s there Who drives that, anyway? Were you on street tires or track tires?
The data acquisition system is a Datacam2 unit - it can be made to fit any car with an OBDII port. We sell them in our store and are a supporting vendor on this site and many others.
I cannot do any higher res video of the forward looking cam only because the VCR in the car records all four cameras at the same time. I would need four VCRs to record separate streams for each camera.

Hi Matt:
I knew this was going to come up at some point.
So far my sneakers are fine for driving...since the accelerator pedal is drive-by-wire and there is no throttle cable, I don't need fine sensitivity on the gas (well, I do, but as you can see I think I have that under control with the NBs). Left foot braking is only a problem in my other car where I had installed adjustable pedals. I may switch to driving shoes in the future but these do seem to work fine for now.
My next big fish to fry is to get rid of the crappy seats. I am strongly considering a Sparco Evo to hold me in - I'm tired of bracing myself with the dead pedal and console.
