Gas Guzzler

Hey guys, being very new to the V8 market, I just wanted to ask everyone how there gas milage is. I drove to work approx 30 miles and i noticed I went from a half a tank to quarter. I wasnt driving hard and the trip lasted about 45 min, mostly in 30 mph traffic. Also sometimes i notice when i am at idle that the instant MPG is at 0.0 Is there some recall or service that needs to be preformed. I mean my car eats gas, Im constantly filling her up. Any info??

Using a gas guage to check mileage is very unreliable.
I suggest you fill the tank to the top, write down the mileage. The next time you need gas fill it to the top again, divide the mileage driven buy the amount of gallons purchased and that will give you a accurate MPG number.

example

10 gallons into 200 miles equals 20MPG.

I average around 8mph in town... and 27 on the highway.

The car has a thurst... guess thats the price of displacement making all that power for us.

I must confess though, that feeding the Chevy gets tiring at times.

man at 2 doallars a gallon it really hurts. I feel for the Z06 guys in californina but were getting almost as bad in No.VA. Well i guess ill just keep feeding the monster. Thanks for the quick replies. And next time it gets fillled up, ill be sure to write it down, well see if its even close to the claims.

At idle it should read 0. You are not putting on any miles but you are burning gas. Do not rely on the gas gauge. They are notoriously inaccurate. It is much better to check your MPG at every fill-up using the trip odometer. City driving will definitely hurt your average MPG.

I don't even pay attention to gas prices. I'm going to fill up and drive regardless, so why worry about it.

I found the average MPG on the DIC to be pretty accurate. So that'll tell you what you're getting.

I get anywhere from 20 to 22 mpg average. I drive a decent combination of hiway and city, with my foot in it quite a bit. If mine went down to 8 I would have someone look at it for sure!

8mpg seems a bit low...i have never gotten below 17mpg in town and on the open road 30mpg at 75mph. average city - freeway driving is about 22mpg.

FYI, I just spent three days on the track at VIR running the car hard and got 6-6.5 mpg as indicated on the DIC. I need to verify this by the old fashion method miles driven divided by gallons used.
